Israeli 7.62 K98 Mausers

^ A little bit of internet research and the above example does not appear to be a one off. A fellow who discovered one in Georgia claims it is marked 7.62 just as all converted Israeli Mausers are so marked, YET the GEW98 still accepts 7.92x57mm!!! Talk of Gautemalan rifles so marked, imported to North America.

Crazy stuff.....myself I think I'll totally avoid a GEW98 in supposed 7.62x51.

Beware!

The one you linked to is clearly converted to K98k specs and is marked 7.62 on the receiver. Like I said, the Israeli's used all sorts of receivers when they built the 7.62 rifles. What model/year is roll marked on the receiver has nothing to do with what its chambered in. If it's stamped 7.62 on the receiver, then it was converted to 7.62. The one in Georgia could have had its barrel replaced with an 8mm barrel by bubba along the way or something like that. It would have to be an extremely rare thing for the Israeli's to put a giant 7.62 stamp on a rifle that wasn't converted. Possible but I can't see them making that mistake very often.

If you're really worried about it, ask the seller for a pic of the barrel markings. They are clearly marked 7.62 and have the year of manufacture stamped on them as well.

I remember them surplus at Canadian tire in Lethbrigde in early 80`s for 80.00 apiece. I`ve owned probably 20 over the years and have never came across one that wasn`t a good shooter. Love the ones with Czech/Bohemian rampant lion. Always looking for another. They are suppose to shoot about 6in high at 100. And always looking for another. :)
