What would be a fair price for a used shooter grade Israeli K98 in 308 (with full wood , not sporterized ) , here in Canada .

Are they accurate in the 308 vs the original 8mm ?

Any info would be great .

I have one. Good shooter. Mine is a very well used one. I think I paid around $500 a few years ago. I overpaid a little but was having hard time finding one. They seem to sell quick when available.

Shooters are 400 and up. A nice one for a collection will be 500-600 and possibly more. Considering what Yugo's are going for nowadays and the steady climb of k98s, specifically the less desirable RC ones, I can see the Israeli Mauser, a collectable in its own, will go up over the next little while. Get it while you can.

I have one, it looks terrible. Has a truly excellent, crisp Parker Hale trigger. I'm fairly certain the rifle was tuned up by the last owner for precision shooting using irons. Paid 450$ a couple of years ago, worth every penny.

The Israelis did take care of their rifles, despite what we would consider butchery to milsurp today.

There are Chilean Mauser that have been converted to 308 as well. 98 action. They have strait bolt on them. Around $400 or less is what they are going for.

Some are great shooters. Caution needs to be taken, as I have had at least one in my hands that had a 7.62 stock that was actually an 8mm Mauser chamber. IIRC, I bought it knowing that. I also fitted a rather scarce SWP MB Mod 98 with a 7.62 stock, but have clearly labelled it as 8x57 chambering.

The cheap Chinese surplus .308 ammo is a plus. :)

Thats guys for the info , I'll have a look but may be there is one in the back of someone's gun safe that's a shooter grade Israeli K98 in 308 that need some work and a good loving home .

Many thanks for all the info !!

I purchased a K98 Isreali conversion a while back and was assured it was good to go. A few months later I loaded up some reduced power loads for it and fired 3 shots before realizing that the brass was fire-forming to a different caliber. Turns out that it was actually chambered in 30-06. Glad I didn't fire full power loads through it! Happily, the seller bought it back for full price, no questions asked.

WOW lucky you had reduced loads , kinda an expensive way to fire from 30-06 ammo lol..

Reading up on the Chilean Mauser's , many are the small ring and not as strong as the large ring Mauser's .

Oh well , we never know what time will bring if we wait and look .
