The second picture is a cutdown, sporterized gun.
I could be wrong but I think it might not be a conversion. It may be one of the .22's built by FN.

There are 2 different Israeli .22 trainers.
The common one, and cheapest was converted by the Israeli's with a Remington .22 barrel and the bolt modified with some of the Remington bolt parts. It is a single shot. This is the one you will see the most often. Anywhere from $150 to $250.

The other was a purpose built .22 by FN. I have never seen one other than pictures. I gather Epps has one that has been sporterized and modifed with target sights.

You might want to take a look at the Norinco copy of the KKW mauser trainer.
Not bad looking, it's a repeater, and it shoots pretty good.

One of the Israeli .308 conversions with light handloads is cheap and fun to shoot, gives you a better K98 experiance.

Israeli 22 Trainer

I have one of the purpose built .22 trainers for Israel. FN manufactured them in the 50's or 60's. They are K98's but they don't have the notch on the top or the left side of the receiver for the loading of rounds from stripper clips. The information I have states there were only a 1,000 made. If you want a picture of one I can send you one? The Belgium government also had 1,000 made for them but they look more like a VZ24 with the top wood going past the rear sight to the receiver. I can also get a picture of one in new condition; it sits beside the Israeli 22. The 7.62 Mauser rifle made by FN has the same crest on the receiver as the 22 cal. I believe the 7.62 Mauser was manufactured in the caliber, as it was a package deal when FN was manufacturing the FAL for the Israelis. I now have the K98 in 7.62, .22, the Galil in 7.62, and the FN FAL in my collection. Now I need the STEN manufactured by Israel and UZI to complete my Israeli collection. OH I need a couple of Israeli K98 bayonets as well. I think the Mausers converted by Israel will be collectable in a few years. They are a piece of history and used by people that are trying to make a home for themselves. I know people from both sides and I can’t take sides, but I would wish that they could work out a peaceful solution.
Like I said if you want some pictures of the 22 I will need a day or so to get them. I haven’t mastered the posting of pictures yet but I am working on it.

Well, I'll go on the record as calling Hezbollah and Hamas a bunch of cowardly TERRORISTS. And for the brief period this stays up before a friendly mod deletes it, I don't mind telling you I support anything Israel or the west can do to erradicate those organizations from the earth. If .22 mausers helped achieve that in any way, then I support those arms too :)

The reality is that Palestinian anger is misdirected. Land was set aside in 1949 for a Palestinian state and guess what? Syria immediately annexed it and expelled the Pallys down towards Isreal where there's been civil strife ever since. If the Arab states were interested in a peaceful settlement, they'd set the Palestinians up with their lands as promised by the UN in 1949, but the constant thorn in Israel's side is of much more interest ot Syria and Iran - Reality Check.
