Israeli Kar 98k feeding reliability

I guess I'm a bit unlucky along with you as well. Ive had my Israeli Mauser for around 40 years now. I really like this rifle but at times it does misbehave a bit feed wise. And it doesn't seem to matter what kind of bullet the rounds are loaded with, spitzer or round nose. It does feed more reliably with a bit more enthusiasm when cycling the bolt in my experience, but then again so do a few other milsurps I shoot as well.
That sounds very familiar alright. Thanks.

Because I wasnt concerned with diagnosing the issue. More so wondering if problems are inherent to the Israeli conversions and not other Mausers.

Several of them have had trouble compared to many more non converted 98ks which have not.

the problem is the bolt passing over the cartridges in the magazine without picking one up and feeding it. There may have been the jams/binding you mentioned too.
How can I feel my life unlucky when I have you here? Where else would would I find such high tier, little known and so not obvious advice like "the SKS isn't a target rifle" and "milsurp ammo isn't match ammo"? Without even having to solicit it haha.

I'm blessed :)
Well you asked and open ended question when you asserted you had a feed issue.

Why on earth would anyone think such issues would only be a problem with ONE particular nation's version of the conversion??

The issue is a problem that can occur with any bolt action rifle, which has a weak follower spring.

When you push the cartridge ahead, the weak spring allows the tip of the bullet to drop and catch against the mag well instead of entering the feed ramp.

It's a common issue that can happen to any bolt action.

Calling one type problematic or trying to find out if it's indicative of one type?????????????????

Sure thing Bear, you just go ahead pretending anyone cares lol

Have you tried running stripper clips? Regular 8mm ones work with 308/762
Yessir, whether loaded by stripper clips or by hand, it seems the rounds have to be placed into the mag box just so or it is really picky about whether the bolt just passes over them or other issues.

Again, multiple rifles.

I've got an Israeli K98 in 7.62, and it loads/chambers and extracts flawlessly. Really accurate, too. No spacers to be found, so I load the 308 a little longer, it really likes 168gn bullets.

My biggest issue with my Israeli and Yugo refurb thus far has been with the 80+ year old laminate stocks falling apart after soaking up too much oil over the years.

The accuracy of mine have been phenomenal as well. Was very impressed and happy with how they did shooting 168 and 155 grain match bullets

Great, barely used barrels.
