Hi all. Been looking at a model 98 Mauser, SWP45 with what looks like the star of david mark stamped on the stock band closest to the hooded front sight. This band is pinned in place as well. There is no 7.62 stamped anywhere or burned on the stock at the heel. There is a gouge mark with what looks like paint on the right side of the stock that looks like a rectangle with the long side missing on one side.

I looked on the side of the receiver and on the left there is another mark like the star of david but a little lopsided.Sorry no Camera so no pictures yet. The bolt does not match the receiver either.I tried a .308 (7.62) bullet down the bore and it fell right through where as the 8mm did not. The stock is a very light color like a beech maybe, not at all dark like walnut. It also has the "arctic" trigger without the lock screws. Thanks guys.

Good call tiriaq. I forgot about the bolt handle. Its pretty pitted up but there are grooves filed in the handle. Thanks Sir

They were buying the guns in the '40s and early '50s.

7.62mmx51 NATO was not finalized until spring 1954 (Canada actually adopted it before the US~ the Canadian Ex1 & Ex2 FAL order was held until the cartridge was finalized)

Israel was buying new FALs in 7.62mm and using .30-06, .303Brit and 8x57 concurrently.

Coincidentally at the same period of time, so was Canada...

IDF also used .30 M1 carbine, 9mm Sten & Uzi. Must be a nightmare on ammo resupply mission.

Yep mics out at .323.Now to find an Israeli sling and bayonet. Can any one give me some tips on chargers for this rifle. I tried what was supposed to be a 8mm stripper clip but the clip is too wide to fit in the charger groove.I know that anything that fits the 06 or.308 has the same cartridge base so I'm going to have to watch out. Thanks

The stripper clips for these things seem to be finnicky, its trial and error depedning on make and nation manufacturer. I have 2 kinds of 8mm strippers that fit my .308 israeli however, but ive tried another type that didnt.

Whereabouts in BC are you, i may be able to spare a few.

Hi Chuck3436 I'm up in Slamon Arm.Don't worry about the stripper clips its not a priority I'll find some in time. There's a few people up here I have to contact before I get carried away on the hunt. Thanks again. Jim
