Klunk had one too.

Barrel date

I will pop mine out and check.

I have one the odd GEW 98's that ended up in Israeli hands.

1916 original date
Barely legible 1920 Wiemar mark
Forget what the last one is

All the old German markings are still there, has a mixmaster of parts with waffen marks, rear site some of the bolt etc.

Always shot nice.

Does anyone have a 55,56,59 or 60 dated barrel?
Id like to find out the exact time frame of when these were made. The presence of a 55 would mean they started rebarreling immediately after adopting the FAL.

Mine is top stamped 5-56

May 56 is pretty quick for them to get at rebarreling. The FAL is said to have first seen action in Israeli service in October 56 during the Sinai war. Alot of the troops still had mausers. Maybee most still in 8mm at this point?

Thanks Chuck.

My 7.62 mauser is definitely my preferred bolt gun to shoot with. By the way does anyone know how far these were usually sighted in for?

Israeli Mausers

I have a collection of Israeli Mausers.
Two of the lass desirable ones will be up for sale soon.

The FN manufactured Mausers with Israeli crests had dark walnut stocks. The Israeli walnut stocks are thicker than the regular K98, the top wood is thicker and is noticable when switched with regular K98s. If there are any FN manufactured Israeli K98s on a rack they are easy to pick out, dark walnut stock, milled trigger guard, and a very narrow barrel band. I have too many, and will have to thin them out.

My Israeli Mausers:

2 CZs 7.62
1 dou 45 7.62
1 swp 45 7.62
1 dou 44 7.62
1 ce 42 7.62
1 bcd 43
3 FN Manufactured Israeli Crested Mausers 7.62
1 swp 45 8mm
1 Mauser 22 Conversion
1 FN Manufactured Israeli .22

Most of them have bayonets and finally an Israeli marked model in the works.

98k sights are set to be dead on at 300m on their lowest setting. Getting the elevation dead on at 100m usually requires a taller front sight. The Germans were taught to aim at a mans belt buckle (low). All my 98k's shoot bang on at 300m.

Eh?

I'm pretty sure each 1-2-3-4-5-up to 20 setting is set for 100 meters, 200 meters, 300 meters up to 2000m etc etc.

Each notch is graduated from 100m-2000m...

All the mausers I've shot including mine when set at 100m, shoot bang on at 100m...not high for 300m?

Yes that is how the sight is laid out, but a lot of them will shoot high below 300m with the standard height front sight. Try it with yours at 300 next time you hit the range. When the sight is at its lowest setting all of mine will shoot a few inches higher than point of aim below 300m. When I shoot them at 300m (which i do most of the time) the elevation is dead on. Your's may have a taller front sight if it shoots bang on at 100m. Im not saying they all shoot high but a lot of them do, it is fairly common.

Ammo will play a big role as well, are you shooting american ammo? German and Czech is loaded to full power while the US stuff is not.
American ammo will shoot POA at 100m and you can of course tailor your handloads to do the same.

There was a thread on this issue a while ago, here it is.
