Isreali mausers

.308 is no problem for any large ring mauser.

Only thing is I'd keep it under 180grains in .308 commercial as thats reaching the limit IMO and from what I've read, although I've shot 180g without issue.

I just picked one up today. Receiver and bolt match, has the front sight hood, but no cleaning rod. It's stamped 1939, and has a laminate stock. Barrel is shiny with good rifling, and the bore is also shiny, but there are a few spots with some light pitting. Has the winter trigger guard.

I love it. Cant wait to put a few rounds of IVI down the barrel.

They didn't bother with the cleaning rod.

My stock doesn't have a bolt disassembling disk in it, or the hand indent in the front. It has 3 brass(?) pins that go through it near the bolt/hand grip. It is laminate, but is coated in a dark red shellac I'm assuming. Is it an original German stock, or has it been replaced?

Should I refinish the stock back to the oiled finish that they came with from Germany? I'd remove the shellac with a stripper, clean the wood, and likely use tung out to seal it. Perhaps a light stain prior to oiling.

The finish that's on it now would look appropriate on a Russian Mosin or SKS. But I know how beautiful the Laminate Mauser stock can look when done right.
