Issue with scope

I threw a vortex scope on an M305 and brought it to the range to sight it in. The first few rounds wouldnt even hit paper at 50 yards, so I adjusted and shot 5 more rounds with the same results. I adjusted until I could no longer adjust UP on the sight. It was maxed out. I had to aim at the top of the target to hit paper at 50 yards which is absurd, Ive never experienced this before. Could it be possible that I screwed on my sight too tight or am I completely missing something here?

Twenty five yards is the most sawt after distance for first sighting in.
And I do enjoy yews'in a bore sight for this partickyewlar reason.

Butt, them that know mawr'in me will be'long shortly.

100 yard zero confirmation is fine but make sure you do a PROPER boresight. Not just a boresight tool in your basement and shoot at 100. Remove the bolt, sight the bore, sight the scope and make sure they are in the same ballpark. A 25 yard zero only tells you that you are in the ballpark by wasting ammo. Sight in at 100, proper boresight and send it.

Told yah...………….

I go with the initial 25 yard thing - especially with new-to-me rifle, ammo, rings and bases and scope. Most of my rifles are bolt actions, so easy enough to do the "look through the bore" kind of "bore sighting". Have one set up putting 3 shots in 5" or 6" groups at 25 yards - no point in shooting any more - something is very wrong. In that case, have discovered the groove dimension in the barrel is .005" larger than called for by the chambering; in another case the scope's reticle seemed to have no connection to the adjustment knobs. Probably would have expended a lot of ammunition to get even first hole on a hundred yard paper target. More typical to get pairs of holes touching, then walk the pairs over to dead centre at 25 yards, then move to 100 yards with some confidence.

Mount or rifle is out, try reinstalling it all.
If you get the same results, Burris Zee rings with inserts can correct it... maybe.
What mount are you using?

Not easy to bore sight an M305. What kind of mount are you using? Is there any chance it isn't aligned properly, if its the typical side mount that rides in the slot and is tightened down by a bolt. Make sure that it seats fully in the groove before you tighten the side bolt. And definitely before installing any other mounting points, like the stripper clip, or a set screw at the front that supports it.

I had an issue with a vortex scope once where I would adjust the elevation and it would not move, until I adjusted the windage one click and the crosshairs would "snap" into place. If you take the scope off the rifle put it against a bathroom mirror, let in a little crack of light and get someone to move the turrets for you to see if you can see them move properly. If they move without issue it'll be an issue with how it's mounted.

My first thought when I saw "VORTEX" was look no further, however, I am not familiar with the mount and brackets required to get a scope on an M305. Seems easy to have some mis-alignment there.

Try mounting the scope on another rifle and see if you have the same problem with elevation or try a different scope on your M305. This will let you know where the issue is
