Issues installing Mesa stock adapter to Rem870

Hey experts, I'm having an issue with the spacing between the Mesa stock adapter and the receiver of the 870 (will try and attach pics). I think I need an extra plate but I'm not sure which one, and the match up with the trigger guard seems a little odd when it is in the right spot (sans the plate). I'm wondering if I was either sent a wrong adapter, or if there's something funny with my trigger guard or receiver.
 
It is not clear what kind of issue you’re having. If your issue is a gap between the receiver and the adapter when installed and screwed on tight, only use the metal spacer provided. Do not use the thin sticky rubber spacer.
Otherwise, provide more clarity of your issue.
 
I'm thinking the pricks sent me the wrong adapter. The female part to attach the stock to the receiver sticks out, but the adapter is flat and where the female end should insert into the adapter doesn't fit, causing it to have excessive gap.

I could post photos to show better, but I don't know any pic hosting sites to link to.

I think what you got there is a shim for a Rem V3/Tac-13. You need a kit with a shim in the shape of an elongated/rectangular octagon.

Thanks mate.

Think I'm able to get just a separate shim to fix my issue to save time on the return? Or would it be best to return and replace? I've got a lot more experience in bolt guns and ARs, this is my first attempt at anything shotgun.
