It’s a bit early ain’t it?

When I lived in Ontario I literally chased them out of the front yard on numerous occasions; didn't want them on display for passing ne'er-do-wells to see, as I already had enough problems with trespassers. :) But we fed them in the back yard all winter, and the first serious gobbling morning in the spring was one of the high points of my year. We'd be sitting on the patio with an early-morning coffee, a turkey would sound off...and my wife would laugh at me suddenly frozen, leaned forward, finger half-pointing towards the bush, mouth hanging half-open and eyes wide. :)

In our current location north of Winnipeg, I have never seen or heard one, although I have had a couple of sightings only about 20 kilometers south of me. They are regular around Winnipeg. I'm embarrassed to admit that in one of my fallow fields, I actually created an artificial "dusting patch", where I dumped a half-pickup-bed worth of sand. I've freshened it up a couple times in the 7 years I've been here; I check it periodically, hoping for that first magical stray feather or velociraptor-like footprint or even a squiggly J-poop.

Lots of tracks so far...but they all show hooves or pads. No dinosaur prints yet. :)
