It arrived today , new marstar m305 Cal 7.62mm

Extractor spring was waaayyy too long in my bolt. I find things work best when you can move the extractor with strong finger pressure. This wouldn't move at all even with a screw driver. Disassembled and the spring was 100% compressed, twice as long as it should be. I was able to cut it almost in half in order to get it at the tension I like to run them. Gonna try and shoot it Sunday then mail Hungry some brass to mic...
 
@45ACP , Yeah the recent batch in question and the 1.637 is a figure my gunsmith buddy gave to me when I had him check it quickly before I shot it. Why does it not sound right, the guy is a gunsmith and I trust him but......... your thoughts?

I'd like to compile some headspace data on this new batch as I have records on close to 500 rifles now from 2005 to 2013.
The 05/07 import years I've examined , average headspace was in the 1.639" to 1.644" range
Then in 09 to 2012 an improvement in headspace was noted with the average coming in the 1.636" to 1.638"

The new rifle I have is bang on 7.62 Nato measuring with the bolt stripped and my Clymer incremental gauge set and double checking with my US Government Military 7.62Nato Go (1.635")
I'm hoping we see more rifles closer to that measurement.

Not that headspace is a huge concern and warrants lot's of discussion. I only ask as I'd like to get guys to send me their headspace data so I can compile and average the numbers.

Got the castle nut loose with some heat finally....now just to grind off the FH welds.....

Edit....boy, I forgot how much ####ing around these things are....now I remember why I sold my first one!!
Drilled out the welds as best I could, used some heat, and the FH came off pretty easy. Cleaned it all up, cold blued a few spots, shimmed the gas cylinder, put it together and the trigger test failed....hammer followed the bolt home. Was fine before shimming....doesn't make sense I know. Anyway, I guess it's a good thing that popped up before shooting it, if it was that hair tight from pass to fail that a 5 thou shim set it off....bit of inletting and we are back in business. Everything is nice and tight now, trigger pull is quite nice, I gotta say this rifle is much better built then my previous 2005 model, seems the Marstar claim they addressed some production issues has some truth to it....
Gonna load up some rounds and do some shooting Sunday hopefully.

My 2011 produces cases that go right back into the case gauge other than the neck protruding slightly.

My pre-dating closed on the no-go gauge you tested it with if I remember correctly. I ended up having to use the bolt from that rifle in the 2011 because the bolt that came with it was deburred poorly and wouldn't lock back either.
 
Well I hit a new low with my Nork m305 today, sliced my finger open on the stock.....right on the bottom side where the mag well is...cut er good too.
 
Took a file to all the sharp edges on the stock......I'm use to cutting myself on Nork metal edges, never thought I'd cut myself of Nork plastic!
 
Shot it yesterday, functioned great, front sight is a bit to the left but I can live with it, accuracy with the irons was more then acceptable, definately a keeper....glad I grabbed one when i did.
 
Got some brass measured by Hungry, 15 thou over so this one is on the higher side...shoots well enough for me as is, I ain't worried about it ;)

.308 go is 1.630, 7.62nato field reject is 1.6455....so we are 1/2thou OK for 7.62nato....lol
We are double a .308 no-go. Really no big deal, just keep loadings of the same brass to a minimum if you load, 1 or 2 uses max.
