It is time for moose tag 2024 Ontario

My neighbour applies for North Bay area. Last year he had 14 points and still did not get a tag. It is not looking good. His group had 2-3 guys with over 15 and they got a tag each.

My group applies for Timmins area and hopefully we get one but not gonna hold my breath ;)

Good thing we always get deer tags for sw Ontario but a moose once in a while would be nice.

We are considering location change north/north west of Timmins, maybe another 500-1000 km where it is easier to get a tag. We’ll see…the problem is lodging that far north.

Moose hunting in Ontario… Let the #####ing start.

I applied yesterday. Think we’re doing a family trip for the first time this year. Kids are going to be 6 & 4. Should be interesting. We hunt 18b because of the available tags. It’s an adventure. See less moose sign there than at home in 42. Ive got 3 salt licks on the property and moose bedded down constantly behind the house. I’m not one of these hunters that whines every time I see a moose though. Just because I’m seeing them doesn’t mean everyone should get a tag.

Saw more moose than deer east of north bay the past couple years during deer season.

Our group only missed getting an adult tag once in the last 16 years but we’ve had to change WMU’s often because of tag allocations. We bought a Cabelas outfitter tent last year and that worked out very well but was lucky enough to find a large enough flat area for the setup.

Our biggest concern is finding a butcher close enough to our hunt. Last year was bad because we had to drive a long way to get a butcher and he was quite expensive. We’ve always brought a freezer for food but might bring another one or two along for quarters.

I hunt in North Bay area, guys in our group with 21 points didn't draw anything last year.

The area is in decline.

We are not that lucky to draw a tag every year but there are 4-6 people in our group.

In my age-50s, I choose a bit of comfort over roughing it in tents ;) did enough of that in my life, now I like to have a solid roof and walls around me and running water lol but it is true, farther up north gives better chances for a moose tag.
 
Same for my group of 5. We hunt near Marten River. 23 points required according to on line info. Most of us have 20points and we are pushing 70 sigghhh.
Our annual sightings are down dramatically.

sure it does, add in Brain Worm, ticks, hunter overharvest in years past, taking too many cows and calfs, add wolves on top of that and finally reduced logging and its a wonder we have any moose left.
Moose tags are a once in an lifetime thing anymore in Ontario, and probably should be. In reality all harvest of moose should probably cease for 5 years to see if they recover some, but I don't want that either. I look forward to the day I get a tag and hope I'm successful, but even with tags our opportunities are dwindling.
 
Seems to be.

Ive had moose on all three of my game camera all winter, and up to about march break. Haven't checked them since. I see the tracks in the muck, going behind my one camera now.
Couple different bulls and three cow and calf pairs, and perhaps one of those cows with twins.


I used to go to the hunt camp in Kirkland Lake, but in the last few years im seeing more mouse within 30 minutes of home.
