It is time for moose tag 2024 Ontario

Quoting george carlin Eff the Effing Effers ......

The last 3 hunts I have been on, we had tags, but the professional entitled poachers bagged em all via night hunting.
The area is nearly cleaned out, now the tags are impossible to get, and there is just no point.
I will shhhh before I get myself banned for "wrong speak" ya, As was written in "Animal Farm", some animals are more equal than others.

Makes one go “huh!” and ask if it has anything to do with the free for all moose hunts for The First Nations…

This morning I checked the draw results for 2924 and…unsuccessful. Will apply for the second chance but not gonna hold my breath…

Ya, same results for our group.

Just like last year we’ll have to decide on which more remote WMU to apply for in the second round. It worked fine last year but had to go to an area we’d never hunted before. Will be the same this year.

I apply for a calf tag in 19 or 21a every year, and get one. The reason is so my wife can continue to build her points, she hasn't shot a moose yet. At least we can get out, we enjoy camping in a canvas tent with a wood stove, do some fishing, pot some partridge, and pretend to moose hunt, lol. I have no doubt that when she does get a tag, there will be a dead moose.

Moose hunting in Ontario… Let the #####ing start.

I applied yesterday. Think we’re doing a family trip for the first time this year. Kids are going to be 6 & 4. Should be interesting. We hunt 18b because of the available tags. It’s an adventure. See less moose sign there than at home in 42. Ive got 3 salt licks on the property and moose bedded down constantly behind the house. I’m not one of these hunters that whines every time I see a moose though. Just because I’m seeing them doesn’t mean everyone should get a tag.

Saw more moose than deer east of north bay the past couple years during deer season.

I had 2 bull tags for 18b this year, can't go due to financial limitations. I think next year, I'll have 9 or 10 points. Hoping to save mine for when my son is old enough in a couple of years.

I personally would never waste those points on 18b. We’ve gone there previously because it’s usually 2points a bull tag, 1point cow.

Edit to add. I applied second application, but I think my group is out for 2024 too.

The new point system doesn't seem to always reflect these low requirements points. My buddy had a chance to hunt in 1D last year, only way in is by float plane or helicopter, and he was lucky enough to have that opportunity. Number of points indicated to get a tag was zero. He had four points, plus northern point, did not get a tag. Only thing we could figure out is that the outfitters had scooped all the tags. There were only 46 tags in total available.

18B was even worse last year. Only 25 tags available, minimum point number set at three.

I used to hunt 18A in the past, we would go in by canoe. There has been quite a lot of forestry happening along the Ogoki road, so there are many new roads pushed in all over the place. The remoteness factor has disappeared, we ran into one group from Southern Ontario that had five large camper trailers and 20 guys hunting off one tag.

And remember, if you have the bright idea to hunt 17, google earth is not your friend. Most of those roads northeast of the Kapikotongwa river are not open to travel, and the CO polices them fairly regularly. Also, if you have a tag for 17 and plan to water hunt the north shore of the Kap, make sure you are camped on the north shore too. The CO is all business, and will probably fine you for hunting in the wrong area if you are camped on the south shore.

I find this very interesting. Never good to hear COs assume guilty until proven innocent. Plus, I assume most moose hunters have their small game licence, and many have a deer or bear tag also, which would be valid for the south shore.
