Just have a simple question for you all. How were the Springfield and Winchester Tipo 2 Garands that are currently available converted to 7.62? Chamber sleeve or new barrel?

Thank you!

The Italians used one of 2 methods; either installing a new 7.62 barrel or taking an existing .30-06 barrel and cutting back and re-chambering the breech end for 7.62x51. They didn't use chamber inserts: the US Navy tried that and found them unreliable.

For those that used a new 7.62 barrel, were those used in standard length stocks instead of the shortened stocks for the re-chambered barrels?

Back in the day, I was buying brand new Springfield
Armoury barrels which were cut down to 7.62 by the
Italians

How do you tell a marstar disaster from the current ones?

Look for crap welds, spatter, and filler around the bolt lugs to make the headspace fit. Or not. Look for out of index barrels, sometimes welded into position - sort of. Look for grind marks where the parts were made to fit together. The story line is Marstar contracted a German gun Bubba whose craftsmanship was pathetic.

In the interests of identifying fraudulent Italian T2 Garands which are actually badly done workshop conversions with serious safety and quality control problems.

That was 2016 and the older Marstar got its arxe handed to it for bad practises. CGN kicked them off the site, and cancelled their privileges. The former owner sold to a new ownership group. The new guys have a much more business-like and retail attitude towards their customers.

For example, I asked about a particular firearm they listed as sold out. Did they have any on the shelf? Yes. There was one held back for warranty replacement and there hadn't been any claims in the couple years that model had been offered, so yes. I bought the last one on the shelf. It works just fine.

It is my understanding that 'Johnone' was in the process of selling Marstar when the issue with the hacked M-1s came to be. In my case the 'new owner' was initially going to refuse the return for refund of the one I bought, and it wasn't until the 'original owner' intervened and reversed that decision - for what it's worth.

Your question is beyond my knowledge. There are specialty Garand forums where the experts are better informed than any six random CGN'ers.
