I’ve had this enfield in my collection for a while, it’s actually my only enfield. I only collect italian and French but having an Italian connection I thought this was worth picking up. I don’t know much about these but I have read that these were given to the Italian navy post ww2 and that the majority were melted down after they completed thier military service. Does anyone know any other details on thier history?

My example is stamped FAT 76 so I know it was repaired at terni arsenal, it’s stamped both on the stock and barrel flat. There is also an ### 56 stamp on the barrel and I’m wondering if gardone repaired it earlier or if it is a new italian barrel. I know of another example that had its original barrel swapped with a terni made replacement so it was done in some cases. Can anyone shed some light?

Very cool! This is the second one I’ve seen (I owned the other) but there should be more in Canada.

These were brought in by a Canadian dealer, and are ex-Italian Navy rifles. (The only Italian used Enfield rifles to survive are Navy used thanks to some political decisions.)

They had a mix of No. 1’s and No. 4’s.

Many of which were given to Italy as “lend-lease” rifles post WW2.

Yours has an Italian renumbered bolt, and Italian 1956 F.A.G. replacement barrel.

Rifle was refurbished in 1966, and 1976 again by FAT which is Terni. (You can vaguely see the 1966 refurb stamp under the 1976 one on barrel.)

Sweet rifle :)

Over ten year's ago now they were surplused and Italian collectors got first choice + what was left got auctioned off. From what I can remember. There should be an old thread about the auction here.
