what would an average accuracy be on these rifles. I just dove in and picked one up. Never owned the platform before. I ordered a CASM Gen II scope mount and plan to send it to m14medic for the standard accuracy package and a look over. I would be happy if the rifle was around 1.5 to 2.5 inch groups at 100 with the austrian Hirtenberger ammo I picked up. I know there are many variables that can affect how a rifle shoots and even if it likes that ammo, but is that a reasonable expectation of accuracy for the rifle? The reason I am asking is I was going to pick up a usgi parts kit from wolverine but would rather put the money into a better optic if it possible to hit my accuracy goals with the norc rifle.

Or does it really boil down to Chinese quality control and I wont know what I got till I go shoot.

I would imagine that 2.5" 10 round groups at 100y are definatly do-able. Smaller is possible with better ammo or handloads.

It has been my experience that the berdan primed Hirt was just a bit more consistent than the boxer stuff. I have also found a fairly significant variation in projectile weight as well as powder charge (of the 250 I pulled and weighed anyway). Making some Mexican match ammo was a little side project that netted some pretty nice ammo IMHO. As a side note, I found the average powder charge (44.1 gr) and the average projectile weight (146.7 gr, +/- 1 gr) was the butter zone. In all I culled approx 90 projectiles from a case of ammo.

As a rack grade battle rifle to a foot soldier, the expectation should be no more that 4 inches at 100 yards.

Anything better is pure gravy.

Then you can start going down the rabbit hole of tweeking it further but I wouldn't expect better than 2 MOA unless you get into heavier barrels and bedding.

Just remember: it was never meant to be a precision rifle
