So I'm finally getting a Benelli m4 and I'm thinking about getting it treated with np3 at Robar. I managed to snag a surefire forend a long while ago, and have been waiting a long time to attach it to something. NP3 coating is something I'm really interested in as I live right by the sea, so salt spray corrosion is a real issue. I have connections in the states, so getting the firearm back and forth across the border is not really an issue. My question is, if a gun has an ITAR object attached going into the states, will they allow it back out, or will there be some weird seizure at American customs?

objects on it has nothing to do with it. you would need forms for the export to the US and import back into canada, without that, you are breaking the laws and you would never see the gun again with or without a surefire on it.

besides, if it is getting coated, strip the gun to just what is getting coated, leave the rest at home.

There is always a way if you fill out the proper paperwork and pay the proper fees. Fill out a form 6, get approved. Take it down, drop it off. Get the work done. Bring it home.

form6 is a temporary import permit to go into the states for USE of the firearm for a specific purpose. the firearm has to enter and leave with the person on the form. it cannot be left behind. leaving it somewhere for repairs is not a valid reason on the form6.
