I just ordered some parts from Brownells for a retro AR15 build. The idea is to make the rifle look as they did in Vietnam.

Among the parts I ordered were a front sight/gas block and an A1-style flash hider.

Imagine my surprise when Brownells staff tell me that the damned flash hider - a $7 US part - is "restricted for export" but the front sight/gas block is not!!:confused:

The damned rifle will work just fine without the flash hider, but without a gas block the rifle becomes a straight-pull bolt-action rifle!!

The stupid here is just bloody AMAZING!!f:P:2:f:P:2:

(and damn Jean Chretien who declined the US invite to be ITAR exempt)

Ok, now I need to know where I can find an A1 style AR flash hider in Canada. I've checked a bunch of site sponsors and have had no luck searching online.

It's not the Americans. It's Canada. The Americans offered us a ITAR exemption when it was put into place. Your wonderful Lieberal government declined it.

That sucks, I would like to read up on it. Can you please point me to something? Thanks.

Although I understand your point, the U.S. is capable of removing Canada (or any country) from ITAR without that government's permission to do so.

They pop up in the EE every now and again. You also find them at gun shows. I only have one spare, otherwise I would help you out.

Would someone correct me if I am Wrong but My impression was that ITAR was only suppose to cover military Hardware but the anti gun idiots in the US wrote the rules so that darn near everything is covered by it. true or not? Or did they just interpret the rules the way they wanted?

The magic word is dual use.
