kind of thought I might like a new (or new to me) autoloader. I shoot a Baikal and do well with it. A new toy might be nice. I have looked at SX3 and a couple Beretta's & Browning's. I also like the Mossberg 930. Anyone else contemplating a auto for this year.
 
Truth be told I've been shooting my pumps and SxS more than my semi's but if I was adding a semi I would have to say that the SX3 would be at the top of my list as well as a Benelli M2 but I want a 20 gauge for waterfowl. If I was looking at a new 12 gauge semi auto my list would probably be A5, SX3 and M2 although I would prefer an older 1187 or 1100 as they fit me best.
 
I have been using an SX-3 for waterfowl, and I expect that I will never purchase another waterfowl gun. I have owned an A-400, and a SBE2 as well, and I sold both and kept the SX-3.
 
Semi has one down side, when it gets dirty they can and will act up at all the wrong times making you miss that essential shot. I have always stuck with a pump or a break action.
 
I started waterfowling 5 years ago, prior to that only upland with an O/U. I picked up an Auto 5 and couldn't hit a darn duck. Switch back to an O/U and viola, birds were dropping. Point being, get something that fits and you are comfortable with. As for the Auto 5 itself, not a single issue.

I have 2 auto loaders for waterfowl .a maxus stalker for sal####er and rough use and a camo A5 for farm land . Both are great guns looked at different models when shopping for the second gun really liked the SX3 other than the bulky fore end . The Berettas just don't fit me as good as the Brownings .
 
Just checked the Cabelas site....I could be wrong, but it seems like shotguns have taken another huge jump in price since last time I checked. Wow.
 
You should also look at the Browning Silver and Mossberg 935. Both have been fantastic waterfowling guns for me. I still have both, but I retired the Browning in favour of the Mossberg. If your budget will allow a purchase of an SX3, the Browning is slightly more. Or you can grab the Mossberg for half the price and put the rest into ammo. The most important thing to consider when deciding what to purchase is how gun fits you. Nothing will be more valuable to you then a gun that fits you like a custom tailored suit and point/shoots where you are looking....regardless of price!
 
I've had my browning gold for12-14 years give or take and don't see myself ever selling it, has always cycled every thing from 2 3/4" trap loads right up to some heavy 3 1/2" turkey loads without one hiccup in all that time.
 
I am itchy too looking at a versamax waterfowl pro. No local shops have one to shoulder hate to order online and not like the feel of it

I own a Browning Silver and I like it a lot, but if I had to replace it tomorrow I would probably chose the SX3 over it. There is not enough difference between the 2 for me to justify the price difference, I can put that extra 100-200 dollars towards ammo or other gear.
 
Tradex is carrying the Armsan (Weatherby) line and the Phenoma in Real tree max4
for $695 looks interesting.

I picked up an A612 in wood and am really impressed with it. Just busting clays,
but should perform well in the field.

The real test will be how well it functions after 10,000 rounds. Will it make 25,000 rounds?
