Do you guys know anything about that shotty? I'm thinking about buying an used one but I don't know any thing about Ithaca. Any comments?

I like them, but they have complicated mechanisms and it can be tough to clear jams. That wouldn't prevent me from buying one if the price was right though.

I have a few, and I find them awesome.
Not just the bottom feed bottom eject, but that is a good start.
Do you find yourself these days carrying around binos, compass,GPS, day pack with granola bars and water. And this is just the start of your day of hunting.
Having a light weight shotgun, that is still made of steel/walnut, or steel/synthetic it a nice comfort....and will not break your back!
I found on my Deerslayer and Police Special model both fed ejected fired and fed any and all ammo.
In the 12 gauge brenekke slugs and foster slugs were very reliable, and in my fully rifled 20 gauge M37 Featherlight, Winchester Supreme Platinum
and Gold Supremes were very very accurate at normal expected use ranges.

In responce to some Ithacas jamming, from what I have found out is that SOME Ithacas barrels in the past, were made using worn out barrel boring devices and the cutters were well worn beyond limits.
These shotguns were produced with very rough chambers and it is believed that this matter was the cause of hard extraction of fired shells. Usually polishing up these deep tool marks relieved this problem.

As you can see I have a fondness for these shotguns....

I used to have one....It was nice. Very light, smooth action, quick pointing and again the bottom eject was cool.

I would not hesitate to buy another one. Only reason I sold it was to buy something with a 3" chamber.

Just got mine from a relative a few months ago for $125. He is very particlular about his guns and this one is in very good shape. I had it out clay busting once and also out to do a little duck / geese hunting once.

I find that even with light 2-3/4" loads, the kick is more than what I expected (especiallay when we were clay busting using the cheapo #8 Winchester bulk stuff that you get from Wal-Mart for $20 / 100 rounds). Using the winchester Mag. Dry-Lock #2 and BB for the duck / geese hunting, the thump was even more pronounced. Left a nice little green-yellow bruise.

I found that my 37 wouldn't eject / cycle properly the cheapo Wal-Mart stuff very well. With the higher-end stuff, there were no issues. Anyone notice the same?

Yep. Along with doubling up rounds occassionally (which required disassembly to clear) that was my other big issue with the 37.

I love my 37. I myself have never had a single problem with it jamming and I have put a ton of shells through it.

I had one guy who borrowed it for quite a few shots and it jammed quite a bit for him, never anyone else though ?!?!? Some way he was pumping the action I guess.

Mine would'nt chamber some of the cheeper ammo, every 3rd round or so it would jam.got a new barrel from guntech on the forum, no more problem with any ammo.
think it was like Brutus said.

One similar post I viewed on Shotgunworld.com is that the cheap walmart shotgun shell use a steel case, believe it or not. (steel case that looks like brass) It lack of brass like elasticity contributed to jamming in some shotguns.

Lighter guns recoil more, of course. I wouldn't select a 37 as my goose gun, but use it where it's lighter weight and better dynamics come to play - grouse, ducks, etc.

Actually the Walmart Winchester 12g doesn't look like brass, it's pretty clearly steel. As a side note: Don't bother trying to re-load it. It doesn't resize very consistantly :D

This is one of brownings design, was used by Rem. to make a heavier pump than the Ithaca. Easy to unload without cycling mag. shells thru action just reach into bottom and press shell catch to allow the mag shells out then cycle to get chamber shell out.

Love mine. Had her cut down to 20" and now she's a range toy. Solid rib with a corn cob forestock. Smooth as glass action, and she'll slam fire - can't beat that. :D

I have one and amazingly for over here its an original DS Police special, all 8 shots. Best of all the original barrel is 3" chamber. Superb and you can slam fire!

Actually, I recently put about 40 of the Wal Mart cheapos through my Ithaca, they worked flawlessly. Only problem I had is I couldn't slamfire at high speed like I wanted to due to range conditions...damn...:(
