My first time at an auction today, let alone a gun auction.
Went in with my eyes on some enfields and intent to pick up a cheap shotgun for the year for deer and grouse.
Enfields were all going for rediculous amounts and I didnt stick around until the end to catch all the final prices on them.
When I did my walk around/inspection of all the guns, I saw this and thought "Wow". Figured it would go for a fair amount and was not within my budget.
I bid on it, won... went to pay, and they wrote down the wrong bid by a couple hundred dollars and tried to make me pay more than what I actually bid. So it went back to the auction, had to sit around and wait for it to come back up, and again won it (again they f'ed my bid, but this time only $25 and I just wanted to get on my way so I paid the difference and left).
Came with 2 barrels, the one currently on it is stamped full, and the other is "mod". It has engraved pictures on either side of the receiver. The modified barrel is a couple inches longer, but im unsure of where to measure from to get the length (from the tip of the muzzle end back to where the threads start, or to the very end?)
From what Ive come up with, its mainly a bird gun, but slugs can be fired out of it (accuracy may be affected).
Has anyone ever used slugs out of these, or have recommendations on what to use for it? Im hoping to get some shots down range and get a feel to see if it will work for my needs as a deer gun.
If not, may have to end up putting it on the EE trading/selling and investing in a mossberg with a slug barrel and bird barrel.
*sorry for sounding like a newb, that is what I am. Since getting my PAL, my focus has been researching Enfields and just recently started looking at shotguns since Ive found out my local WMU are for hunting mainly shotgun.
