Hello!

I am trying to fix an Ithaca model 87 feather light, ducks unlimited edition shotgun for a friend. Long story short he rescued this shotgun from a drunken donkey of a man who was just going to throw it away after falling down with it and bending the barrel while hammered up.

So I was wondering if anyone knows of a place in Canada I can order a bird barrel for this very nice shotgun.

Thanks a bunch.
Chris

Prophet River Firearms (site sponsor at top right of page) I believe is the Canadian importer or Ithaca guns, I'd either go to them or Ithaca directly if brand new is your goal. If used is preferred put up a want to buy add in the equipment exchange, you may get lucky.
How bad is the bend, would you be able to remove it by cutting back the barrel length and if so how much would be left?

Not sure where you might find one in Canada. Google "Ithaca M37 Featherlight barrel" and buy one from the US...get Prophet River to import it for you...I had 2 Winchester Super-X Model 1 barrels brought in for me a month ago. It's so simple and easy that now I hate thinking about all the missed oppurtunities I passed on over the years!

Edit: Just read JamesM's post...looks like Prophet River may be able to give you more than one option now! LOL!

Thanks for the heads up guys I will call tomorrow. The barrel is bent at the 12 inch-ish mark just in front of the barrel lug which broke off as well. I fixed the broken lug only to find out the barrel was bent. So maybe I will cut the barrel down to 18.6" and he can use it for messing around.

Glad to see it worked out for you. Clay has taken quite a few up for me in the past couple of years and as you say painless.Started with a 16ga rem choked wingmaster barrel , like I was going to find that in canada. NOT and the rest is history
Have you joined gun broker also, I get some good ones there??

To the OP Epps has a couple of used 12ga ones but make sure yours is after the serial number that you can install a second barrel without a gunsmith. I forget the number off the top of my head

855,000

Though I believe all 87's were well after that mark.

I can give Clay a third nod of approval. I've got one on the way from him via Corson Barrel in the States (might be an option for you) and it's been quick and painless.

There's a guy in Dunville Ont. He worked at Ithaca for most of his career. Actually, He bought all of Ithaca's stuff when they went out of buisness...TWICE...Canada and US side. Anything you need to know about Ithaca or possibly find for them...I think this guy would be the guru and the best source. His name is Ron Sharp(e)...I'll see if I can find his number...I know I have it someplace around my "clean" desk here.

Somewhat correct, Prophet River used to import them. They are no longer an importing Ithaca dealer. Contact CGN handle "Farmboy" he does import Ithacas as of recently & is on this forum's dealer network.

I called Prophet river but they said they could not really help me. They did give me another # to call and said I can use them to import a barrel though if I find one in the US.

So they did help me I guess lol

I think this issue boils down to pure cost. Ron Sharp or a big outfit such as Ellwood Epps or maybe Western Gun Parts. Versus buying from a USA source and paying import fees on top of cost, shipping, duty fees, etc. And if time is not an issue, perhaps do a google search and opt for the email notification for Canadian sources?

Edit: I just went to Epps website and under "hunting" then "discontinued accessories" then "barrel" tab, page 1 of 3, there was an Ithaca M37 12 gauge barrel for $150. (but it's 2 3/4 only I suspect) All of the M87 12 gauges were 3inch capable.

It is just a slight bend you can only notice when looking down the barrel. Anyone know of a smith that can fix it? I will post a pic soon.

Epps lists it as part of their services for 75 bucks * (starting price). If they have the V block set up on slides I seen state side it is like 10 minutes work.Good luck

I've straightened a few barrels by whacking them over a 25lb bag of lead shot or a bag packed full of beach sand. I've also done it to change point of impact with older plain barrels rather than take a rasp to the stock! I was/am cheap...never saw the point of paying someone to do something if I could do it myself! LOL!

Hello, New posting here, what caught my attention was the ithaca posts. I also have a couple ithaca featherlight pumps. Got a deerslayer barrel with the mounting lug broke off and missing. I see you have a barrel issue also. Those model 87 made only short time but really cool. They made some of them with the slam fire trigger set up.
My problem is this, I contacted Les at Diamond gunsmith in ithaca ny, to get a price on a lug and have him mail one out, well he wont do it but he will dang sure let me send in the barrel and solder one on for me for 185.00 bucks. Jeeze I can buy a brand new slayer for 220-300. Well I heard this ron sharp guy has a bunch of ithaca parts but his phone number doesn't work from my house. And I see he doesn't have an email or website either. Have you contacted him at all?
Thx,
Dan
