Ithaca Model 37 ‘trench gun’ makes a comeback

I handled a parkerized Ithaca with an 18 inch barrel that an acquaintance owned - very nice, slim, fast handling. But - I bought a 1950's Wingmaster for $250 and it's just nicer. You do have to keep your eyes peeled for those older guns.

I'm not even sure who the importer is for Ithaca these days - still Trigger?

They should sell it up here with a second "stakeout" barrel... I wonder if they will sell the heat shield and bayo lug separately?

What a joke. You can get repro heat shields for $100 US. Not even remotely worth it.

Not sure if it will make a comeback at the price but maybe that's just me. I'd love one though. Perhaps if a bunch of people buy them the price will come down?

Uhm, price out the early WWII, and early 1960s true M37 trench guns, that are sometimes availlable from James-Julia auction website.

1200ish is peanuts in comparison, even with exchange. Vietnam era ones are, very lately, often priced about 5000 USA, WWII variants command just about twice that friend.

Myself, I am going to take a long and serious look at this newest variant. Even if it is just a commerical product only.

Cheers!

6 hole heat shield, three bolt attachment to barrel. Bayonet mount looks pretty darn close to the original. IIRC, there were two specific styles. But the minor differences escape me right now.

Edit: I will probably get one, somehow or other. Even if it does not slamfire.

Looks like a company called East Taylor makes a quality modern reproduction of the mount for $175 US.

Pretty awesome reach.

A 16 inch barrel version with the bayonet mounted just in front of the barrel takedown collar would be a nice.

Hard to find a cheap model 37 without the "featherlight" receiver engraving. I don't mind the engraving on a hunting gun, but on a trench gun, it looks goofy.

I wonder if the new repro has the early type magazine cap with the retractable leverage arm?

True.
I still prefer the model 12 over the Ithaca 37 though. Now those can be found found already with 20" barrels in Canada for well under $200 in field use condition. They are much more common.
Much cheaper to convert to trench gun config with the repro heat shield/bayo lug!

I don't prefer the Model 12 over the Ithaca. Not at all.

I tried to like the Model 12, I really did.

I've had 3 of them. Not to mention several M97's. (very similar)

You couldn't give me another one. (hmmm...I've probably committed heresy- I know many like the Model 12)

The Ithaca is so easy to load and cycle in comparison...such a pleasure to use.

Maybe it was just the guns I had, who knows but I really don't much like them.
