Ithaca Model 37 Featherlight 12 ga. 2 3/4

Older versions of the 37 were designed to slam fire if the trigger remains depressed during the whole cycle. Ar you taking your finger completely off the trigger each time?
Have a good gunsmith check the sear engagement.

I am having a problem with the shotgun discharging (not all the time) when the action is brought forward. Any advice/help would be appreciated.

If the safety is not engaged and you have your finger on the trigger when you close the action it is supposed to fire. That is the design of the Model 37 as is the Winchester Model 12 as well.

Try cycling it with your finger out of the trigger guard completely.

I thought I may have inadvertantly had the trigger depressed the first time it happened. However, I tried it again and the shotgun discharged, as I pushed the action forward :mad: and my finger being no where near the trigger.

It sounds like a broken firing pin...

Would it be possible for me to change the firing pin if it is broken, rather than having a gunsmith do it? Or should I just leave this to the pro's?

Thanks for the replies, I knew I would get the answers I needed from this great web site :)

Determine if it is broken... and if you can do that there is no reason why you couldn't replace it... take the stock off first other wise you will ruin the large screw trying to get it out.
