sigh.....

Been feeding the M37 with dummy shells - going through the motions of "slam" firing it.

After my teardown (barrel removal and re-oiling the reciever parts) I played with it again but noticed that it was now its double feeding the dummy shells.

Arrrrrg......

Upon careful examination I had noticed the extraction forks are now going past its original point thus causing the shell stop lever to malfunction.

Can anyone tell me how to fix this annoying problem.

If you need to replace parts:

Ron Sharp, in Dunville ,Ontario has all parts at 905-774-6368.

You may have a weak shell stop, this could cause a shell feeding from the magazine, to leave too early and cause a double feed jam.
Seems IIRC correctly there are two different shell stops for M37/M87 Ithaca. One which just 'rocks' on a pivot, and another with a spring underneath & part of it.
Ron Sharp would ask this of you, if you were to order it from him.

good luck!

Ithaca M37 PROBLEMs Please help ........

Hey !

I just got into shotguns and picked this M37up for cheep not knowing just how timeless this design really is.

I was already thinking on the next pump 2 get - actually a Mossburg Persueder and it was so diffrent from the M37.

The M37 has a silky action compared to the Mossburg.
I was suprised too at the weight difference. m37 is only 6.5lbs

Mind you the Mossburg is capable of 3"mags but thats not an issue for me.

So for now Im going to stick with an "old" Ithaca with the "slam"/pump fire option.

PS thanxs again for the info.

Hey there,
I've got an M37 also and have had problems with double loading after a full tear down also. I found that that the extractor was not securely in place, So I tore it apart and put it back together and she works fine now, inexpensive weapon but greatly reliable.
