Ithaca NID SxS 20 ga....stocking update

Looking great Dilly!

My hands are shaking just at the thought of having to lay out new checkering. I recut existing checkering a couple times which is far easier and it just about put me in an asylum. Not likely something I’d do again

I even made a mess of existing checkering.

Worked on the final panel over the last couple days.

I used a piece of paper and a pencil to rub a stencil outline for the right side, then positioned it as close as I could by eye. The palm swell is a bit different on this side, so I had to freehand some of the master line layout.

The tedious deepening of the lines. Lots of boo boos during this part.

Big reveal...pretty happy

The forearm is a bit wonky unfortunately. I had trouble carving around that latch

The cast off and toe out is really obvious in this picture. The gun is for my daughter, but damn it fits me so well...

I think we have her LOP figured out. Current plan is to finish it off with a correct hard butt plate but also grind a thicker recoil pad for when I want to use it....LOL

Fantastic work. Professional chequering job (yep, I was wrong to suggest leaving it blank).
Thank you Steven. I took no offence to your suggestion. I am pleased with the grips, although a close up examination would prove its not “professional”.
My daughter doesn’t seem to care. She wanted that style of grip.

I really like your shaping of the grip, it's just perfect on this gun. Probably feels great in hand too. I realize that this is a labour of love but I hope that the results encourage you to do another.

Thanks everyone for the kind words. There is a lot of satisfaction that comes from projects like this.

Falconflyer, I know you are absolutely right about seeing the flaws. They usually bug me for a few months, then I stop noticing too.

Spank, I did ask the girl if she wanted a tactical flashlight mount on the right barrel and maybe a hydro dip finish of skulls, but she passed...LOL. What I did do today, was cut a sizeable chunk off the stock to get it ready for pad installation. I just need to acquire a couple now of the right thickness for her and maybe me.

Longer term plan is to lengthen the forcing cones and take the chambers to 2 3/4”. Barrels need to be rust blued too. Once that is done, I have to decide if the gun is worth sending out to have the faint engraving redone and maybe a CCH.
