I have had an ithaca xl900 recoil for years now. a while ago i decided to order a new barrel. The gun always fed reliably but with the new barrel it will not eject the light shells completely. Will this go away if i fire a few boxes of heavier shells through it? i can kinda stumped as to why changing the barrel would not make it eject light shells

I would say that it isn't worked in yet. You could polish it and make sure that nothing is heavy with oil or grime. I had the same gun and it performed perfectly. I even put some handloads through it that were a tad weaker than target loads and it took all of them like a champ.

I've put over 200 shells through mine, and not a single problem. As stuckon308 said, give it a good cleaning, and put some more rounds through it.

HI Is you shotgun a ithaca XL900 that is gaz operated or a ithaca 900 that is recoil operated?

I have a model 900 in 20 gauge. It will not fire field loads at all if it is the slightest bit dirty. Check the friction ring and polish the inside of the lug on the barrel, make sure it is clean and well oiled.
