Hey, a "buddy" of mine has an ithica shotgun that he doesnt want anymore. Has anyone ever had an ithica shotgun? How are they?

Take it! Take it TAKE IT! Ask questions later!

Yes, they're excellent guns (if not abused or worn to hell). Light, fast handling, bottom loading. Sweet guns.

Which Ithaca are we talking about? Ithaca made and marketed a variety of different shotguns from their pump guns, single barreled trap guns, assorted sxs doubles, guns made for them by SKB and even some from Perazzi.

The pump is a good gun as are any Ithacas made by Perazzi. The SKB made guns are decent. The sxs range from quite nice to old klunkers.

Any Ithaca was a good gun.
Good is a relative term. Ithaca put up a dog or two over the course of its history. An Ithaca Flues or Crass are pretty uninspiring guns.

Just because it says "Ithaca" on the barrel doesn't automatically make it a good gun.

The mod 37 is light to carry, easy to use and clean, and is very reliable. The 12 ga kinda kicks a bit due to its light weight, but the "thread on" style barrel has given this gun a great reputation as an accurate slug gun. If its not your choice for birds, have the barrel cut down to 22" and put sights on it and use it as a deer gun.

Re: Ithaca

I have an Ithaca 37T (Trap) pump. This shotgun is well made, light. and sturdy, but still has the good looks (fancy walnut, deep bluing) to stand up to the more expensive guns in the rack. The only drawback is the kick. Because the "Featherlight" is exactly that, sometimes it feels like you've been kicked in the shoulder by someone wearing steel toes. When I shoot it, I always make sure I've got a shoulder pad on. The bottom eject system is also a plus for lefties, and keeping the weather out of the breech area.

I really enjoy my Ithaca, if you can pick one up for a decent price, I'd encourage you to do it.

The M37 from Ithaca is a very good quality gun (I have a Featherlight Deluxe) but these don't sell very well (don't buy it as an investment). You can get a very good one from as low as $175 to $250.

I don't know why it's like this - I believe they are better than the Rem 870 but don't expect to find too many after market accessories for it.

Check the Exchange Forum from time to time and you will see what I mean as far as price and how quickly they sell.
