It's almost here...which gun?

It's almost here...only five weeks until moose opens :dancingbanana: Barely enough time to decide which rifle to use ;) So after picking through the safe, I came up with these selections for 2007. Which one out of the following list would be your pick for moose this year?

M70 .270Win
M99 .308
M94 .30-30
M70 .30-06
M700 .350 Rem Mag
M77 .338 Win Mag

(shoulda posted this in "Hunting and Sporting Arms")

Flip a coin, they'll all work....

I like Bartell's idea...gakk...hruuuukkkk..kakkkk....kakkakk...cugh..cugh.. that was weird, I kinda choked for a second.
Anyway, the .350 with the 225 TSX @2600 sounds pretty sweet. I wouldn't look back either...cugh.. that was so odd...........:D

...maybe if it was 1907. This is modern day moose we're hunting - I'm talking mega downrange velocity and energy here people!

Well, I've narrowed the decision down to two. I really enjoy my Ruger .338 stainless and it has accounted for a couple moose & an elk :) It currently sports a new-style synthetic factory stock, but I just don't like plastic on my big game rifles, so the laminate handle is going back on :D The M700 Classic in .350 Rem Mag is so...so retro cool it just begs to be used...with proper handloads of course. So now it's time for a bit of shooting comparisons to see who'll win as my 2007 moose masher

Take the one you like the most are is the least likely to be sold.

With good bullets, they are all pretty much equal, give or take.

.

Leave the 30-30 to us Ex... spurts, :D use the 338WM. It won't dissapoint.

Seriously, the extended ranges possible in your local, plus the presence of game with pointy teeth, and the chances of a fairly large moose (hopefully), plus my own experience with the 338WM lead me to the conclusion it's a hell of a moose rifle.

You are right on the money with all three points. Point number two was my reasoning to remove the .30-30 & .270 as contenders. The ability to deliver large doses of bone crushing power at extended ranges is within the realm of the .338WM. But that darn .350RM still has that undeniable coolness facter to deal with.

Take the one that you shoot best from hunting positions: standing, kneeling, sitting, braced against a tree, etc.

20 rounds apiece should be able to decide the contest, with ranges out to 250-300 meters.

well if your moose are a little bigger, due to interbreeding with the alaskan subspecies, or what not then 338 would be my choice.

Unfortunately I don't have a 338 or a 350 for that matter either so I'll be going out with my plain old boring 300WM :) for bullwinkle this year.

270 and 30-30 would do the job but not a lot of room for error. Why use the minimum.
