It's Here! It's Here! *NOW WITH PICS*

Well here are some pics (I know, it's "just another Remington 700 Police, big deal", but to me, it's the prettiest rifle out there! Not the greatest lighting though):

Is this rust on the bolt face? Or is it some sort of grease/oil?

Hell, mine didnt come like that. Actually, it's fired around 300 rounds now, and it isnt even close to looking like that. I hope for you it's oil.Maybe soak a Q-tip with DW-40 and try to wipe it away gently. If it goes away, it's most probably oil.

Man, that is one ugly rifle! You should be ashamed to be seen in public with it! I'll do you a favour and take it off your hands right now for 1/2 price just to save you further embarassement! That's just the kind of guy I am, always looking out for the other guy!!!:D
Just kidding...that's beautiful! If my cards weren't maxed I'd be eyeing one myself!

Often you will find the bolt face on a new rifle with brass on the bolt head.
This comes from the proof rounds.
However, it would have been nice of it were cleaned off before it was sold to you!

Haha no it wasn't the wait time, it was how long it took me to save up for the bloody thing (I'm pretty young and I've never had an employed job before the army which I joined 4 months ago).

Gotcha...hope you enjoy your new rifle.;)

:D. Thanks! I'm sure I will :D.
mebius: Heck no, it's in .308; I don't think I'd buy this kind of rifle in .223 (trying to make some sort of M24/M40 hybrid rifle or something).

I tried the washer idea and it worked perfectly, no more rattle anymore! Thanks for the recommendation.

Yep juuuust love my LTR.. You have the same bipod setup.. so keep an eye on the swivel knob connection to your swivel stud on your forend.. recoil can wear the stud out..

make sure the bipod is onto the stock very tightly with no movement..

It might be better on the P, but both are HS precision stocks and could potentially have the same problem

Will do. The washer worked pretty well and there's no movement whatsoever anymore.
I also cleaned the bolt head with a patch and some Rem-oil and it looked clean, so I'm guessing it wasn't rust.

Im guessing you cycled some rounds through it and you have some brass dust on the bolt face. All the edges will be pretty sharp right now so you are going to get some brass shaved off when you cycle and extract rounds. As you break it in it will go away.

On my LRT I just made up a few dummy rounds and cycled them through the gun from the magazine. That will help break it in and round down some of the sharp edges.

Yeah for sure, that kind of worried me. I'm suprised there's any grease at all on the rifle at all though, the rest of the rifle is spotless.
How would you go about making dummy rounds? I do have an old .308 cartridge that I found at the range; it looks like it was a dud round, as the bullet's still on but there's no powder in it and the primer's been hit. Would it be safe to practice with it? Should I remove the primer?
