It's that time of year again: Destroy all gophers!

I have tried squirrel and it wasn't too bad, definitely not enough meat. just was wondering how gopher was.

I cant see how it would smell better than it tastes, some smell terrible.

Really looking forward to a video with the different scoring catagories on the side. You know, like artistic form, exreme height, total distance covered etc.

It's been a long time since I have been out gopher shooting. There are none here in Whitecourt unfortunately, I used to have a blast on the grand dads farm across from Whitney Lake when I was a kid out getting rid of them. No .22 so my weapon of choice a .410, there was no picking them up after.

@ 19.97/box..... How do you sleep at night knowing you just robbed a store??? $27 for the Fed 525`s here in SE Sask.

Local Co-op has Federal 525's on right now for $19.97. Load up boys, while the loading is good!:D

I have never "hunted" gophers. Now, "shooting" gophers..... that's a different story. :p

If the "can't eat it won't shoot it" people saw the destruction in fields caused by gophers, and actually talked with farmers who have been affected with infestations, they would likely take up arms. I went to a place near Mankota about five years ago, and when the farmer was showing me the mess that these vermin had made, he was close to tears.

Back then, farmers weren't supposed to be using the rank poison, and it was unbelievable the condition of the fields were in. I am a farm boy, and I had to ask what crop was in two different fields. I shot gophers down there until I was blue in the face. ;)

It still looks like the day after tomorrow/ice age here in most parts of Saskatchewan. From the forecast, we will be building an ark instead of shooting gophers this spring.

Really? Gopher hunting...you guys make me. Jealous. I've been told by some one "shooting gophers is the most fun you can have with your clothes on." Lol man it sounds like so much fun. Shooting gophers isn't hunting though its Pest control.

Hey BC Farmboy......I know of only one young guy that tried to eat gopher (Richardson ground squirrel)........it didn't end well. Apparently they taste as good as they smell.

:puke:I would need to be a LOT hungrier than I've ever been to even consider eating a friggin' stinking gopher. :puke::puke:

I've shot gophers and found them chock full of worms! In the same food class as sewer rats and dump bears.

Anyone interested in taking a guy out shooting these little buggers or even dropping him off? Planning a trip to Calgary for a wedding this summer. I realize its late in the season for gophers but I'd love to try it. Definitely would book flights to accommodate an extra day for gopher shooting. Don't really care if I need to drive a few hours, OK that's BS but I'll do it. I can send out a precision rifle to buddy's place if need be, not sure what the situation calls for in late summer. Thinking a 10/22 would suffice?

same here. Vermin! NOT like rabbit from the smell. Chipmunk and squirrel are OK, but gopher? Not a chance.

A 10/22 is fine. I have shot plenty with one. And you don't have to send it, you CAN bring it as checked baggage.

Sunday I still had 3inches of snow and 30km/hr winds. Monday it was 15 and calm, and I was...oh yeah, AT WORK! And yesterday, today, all weekend it is gonna rain, hard. Almost 3" forecast, this is killing me! Lots out, but so fricikin' WINDY you have to use a .308 to hit 200yd shots. 45km wind with 60km gusts today. Killer on a open field.

I'm heading out to the Calgary are for work next week and I'm looking for people to go with or spots to annihilate gophers at. I've only see 2 so far this year that I could shoot at and missed :( The first was about 600 yards with a 22-250 and a fairly strong wind.

Been trying to find some land around Edmonton for a month, and nothing yet. Unless you're from here, and know someone, they are not willing to trust new people it seems. Can't blame them I guess, but for those of us who are responsible, its a little frustrating.

Are ground hogs vermin? I've been luvin this thread so I took a drive. No gophers but did see ground hogs out in farmers fields. I imagine they leave big holes and eat crops. They were 3x the size of any pics in this thread so I'm not sure of the legality.

I got more on my phone, just no chance to upload.
