When I lived out west, I don't remember hearing anyone describe it as hunting, just gopher shooting. It's no different than trapping mice in your house. They are vermin and need to be destroyed.
Good job guys, wish I was out there.
Oh heck yeah, same goes with muskrats....they taunt me everytime.

So the other day my 6 year old niece tells me she want to hunt gophers with her uncle's guns. I had to break her heart and say I didn't know anywhere to shoot them. If anyone in the central AB area can help me out I can make it worth their while!!

BS....gophers aren't that big.....either photoshopped...or a really wacky camera lens....or a marmot..
They're Columbian Ground Squirrels, as opposed to Richardson's Ground Squirrel, which are what are commonly known as gophers. The Columbian variety are found in the foothills and mountains, while the Richardson's is found on the prairie. While everyone calls them gophers, if you want to get technical, neither are actually gophers.

Has anyone here tried gopher on here? I wouldn't mind some feed back on the taste and methods of cooking them.
I have never thought to eat one cause most I shoot don't smell to great and ive always just shot them for pest control.

Maybe they taste like rabbit. I only wish we had those opportunities.
I've got 2 10/22's a .222, .223 and a 22-250 I could have fun for a while.

I fried one up when I was a lad. I wouldn't recommend eating them to anyone else. The meat was tough, stringy and smelled only slightly better than it tasted.
im a city hunter buddy! (or a hunter that was raised in the city. the only people ive seen or heard of that eat squirrel was the 2 billy bros on swamp people
The Robertson family on Duck Dynasty seem to like eating squirrels, too.
I've never eaten gopher or squirrel myself, but I tried iguana when I was in Belize.
