Its time for pops to get a new rifle!

Deer and bear, and he really does not hunt bear much he shoots them when they cross the line around his home. But as for hunting 80% deer. the odd time he will buy a moose tag (calf) and go sit in the bush, but lately he is out all day in the fall hunting birds, or sits my bow hunting stands for fun.

I really like the 444 idea as well, they are a stout little gun.

I think I will keep it in the lever family he is just a lever type of guy.

As I mentioned the 61L 30-06 sako was a no go, as well as the 300 wsm so i savage, so i think a good used 45-70 or 444 is the trick.

I think a good hunting load in 45-70 or 444 may be to much recoil as he gets older. Personally I'd recommend a Marlin lever with a good 1.5-5x scope in trusty old 30-30 or if you want to be fancy & could come up with a nice .375 BB Marlin you'd have as good a shootin rig as there is for this country :)

I was at the gun store today and eyed up a nice marlin 45-70 i will likely pick one up next month for him.

I will reload light loads 300s speer or hornady.

He will be good to go.
