WOW you guys are living my dream. Would love to live up North, unfortunately wifey and the kids would never go for it. I have asked many times over the years. Did make it up once for some fishing
Have fun and please share the pics :)

Yes that would be nice to be able to get for something like that. Just getting out looking for coyotes is peaceful, cant imagine what its like up there.

Ted - that Northern life sure looks good! I don't know how you prepare pike, but the method I used when i was up in the Northwest Territories is as follows. Fillet the fish, and skin each fillet. Salt to taste and place the fillets in a pyrex baking pan (or whatever you like). Sprinkle with dill and place thin slices of garlic on the fish. Next slice (cold) butter and put those on the fillets as well; lastly, put slices of lemon on the top. Cover and bake for the appropriate time, depending on the thickness of the fillets.

The fish comes out tastey and moist - the bones are also usually very easy to remove.

Well, we have been eating a lot of fresh fish caught from under the ice: pike, lake trout, whitefish, and burbot. Had company over for a feed of fresh pike a few days ago.

Thanks for the new recipe, 1899.

Ted

Looks like an excellent meal! Congratulation on catching the grayling. You don't need to live in the North for that sort of meal, it is kinda standard in our house. Tonight it was calf moose steak and home grown potatoes, last night home made elk sausage, the night before wild pheasant in an East Indian butter chicken recipe on wild rice. Good eating is wild and home grown food IMHO.

Get up on the weekend throw the canoe up on my shoulders walk with the wife and kids to one of the lakes within walking distance "some of them have no road access so they are very private and pristine"

Do some exploring, catch a couple little fatties and home by 2 pm, Its real tough living in the north.

I bet that fish put up a good fight on such light line.

It was a good scrap, especially when he got around the dead spruce. Jumped clear out of the water half a dozen times. We hooked quite a few more, but only brought this one home to eat.

Heading out for some big pike, tomorrow. You ever try them on a fly rod? That is really fun!
Ted

I have family in white horse, I really should visit. seems like you guys up there are living the dream. When I leave the army in 6 years I'll have to come up and see how it is.
