It's up to you to arm the Canadian Forces...which sidearm do you supply them with?

My Browning's barrel rattled in the receiver and the mags would reliably hold only 6-8 rounds. And that was a deployed pistol on operations. Because of the single action, we'd have to practice racking on the draw from our unauthorized non-"widow-maker" holsters. Not complaining, just saying.

Whatever pistol of choice ya'll have, I'd like to see people include holster choices, because even the best pistol can get trumped by army kit policies (think "Bianchi"). I trust the Canadian Forces kit policies like I trust my old mother buying my jeans: She means well, but she'll screw it up.

My 2 centavos: Glock 17 (Western Armies love the 9mm), reliable, made for dummies/competent soldiers, no manual safety, cheap, rugged, easy to maintain, and so many kit choices that even the Canadian Forces can't screw it up (but Safariland 6004 is probably a good way to go for rough duty carry).

FWIW: The people who I trust and look up too for advice/common sense all have said G17/G19. And being issued a pistol doesn't make you an expert or even knowlegeable on a weapon system.

While refurbishing the BHP could be a viable option, I bet it would be cheaper for the CF/RCMP to sell the BHPs/S&W (sadly illegal) and purchase M&Ps/Glocks. A new pistol is not big on my priority list, but the cost is not all that significant, really, compared any other weapon system purchase. I bet you we have spent more trying to establish the requirement than the replacement purchase cost would be.

GLOCK 19. Small and light, so it's not a burden, but with a 15 round magazine. Easy to use, and proven by military and police worldwide as reliable.

We should follow the lead of the BRITS :) GLOCK

Because he has one?

Everybody answers with their own damn gun, that's why these threads are worthless.
I don't have a 229, or any SIG personally. But I do put a lot of rounds through a 226 on a regular basis and have seen the problems that some members with small hands have with it. Those problems could be solved with a 229.

I have seen that too and the P229 is the same girth as the P226 :( the E2 grip and short trigger should be issued to elf soldiers :)
