IUR rail too wide?

My newest IUR looks just like my other ones, except that the rail under the barrel is wider than the rest.

It's not uniformly wider all the way back to the magwell/GL lug: it starts off wider, gets back to "normal width" for a few slots, then widens up again all the way back.

Is this to accommodate the GL? If so.........can I mill the wide ones back to standard width?

It is most likely a manufacturing issue. Years ago I measured some KAC URXs and they had the same problem.

I also noticed that one of my DD RIS kept cracking a thorntail mount at the same spot. This makes me think that everyone is having issue of making perfect rails all the time.

Perhaps that is the why every manufacturer wants to embrace M-Lok as fast as possible. You see, it is easier and cheaper to ditch a crappy rail section than tossing the entire hand guard.

Can you post a picture? None of that makes any sense to me.
