I know the a1 is a nice, new and improved version of the fs but I love the look of the older fs. I'm just curious if the changes are minor or should I go for the a1? I know they both shoot well and they're exactly the same price so i really have no idea.

if you like the look of the 92fs, then go with the 92fs.

differences are very minor. on the A1 you have:
rail (obviously)
recoil buffer to reduce stress on the firearm. whether this is necessary on the 9mm is debatable.
front dovetailed for ability to replace the front sight
captive recoil spring assembly for slightly easier takedown
rounded trigger guard

i too dig the looks of the 92fs, but i like the utility of the A1 (front sight removable, rail for light). i couldn't decide so i ended up with both :)

I have the 92A1 and i love it the rail is a great feature that you don't get with the others. Another thing i like a lot about the 91A1 is that its the cheapest of all i bought mine from Elwwod Epps for $695.00 plus shipping and tax...cheapest you will find anywhere.

There is a thread on this from about a week ago but anyways........IT IS MORE THAN JUST THE RAIL!!

The A1 has a built in recoil buffer, which makes it the only choice in my opinion, unless you are going for the Stainless/Inox.

The 92fs for years was haunted by the earlier productions cracking locking blocks. This was a problem that likely was more talk then actual occurences, but nevertheless Beretta felt it necessary to address the issue with the new 92A1.

Another nice thing about the A1 is the removable front sight which can be swapped out and upgraded, unlike the FS which has the front sight cast into the frame.

I chose the A1 for the above reasons, the rail, and the overall fit and finish just seemed nicer to me.

I was gonna go with the INOX, but stainless drives me crazy with all the marks, and dirt that shows up on the finish. LOL

And a pic of the recoil buffer:

Ive always liked the 92, I also went with the A1, just the added features appealed to me more (recoil buffer, enlarged trigger guard, rail etc etc), she still looks good in my books, but its ultimatley your choice, theyre both excellent variants of this amazing pistol! When ever you make the decision welcome to the club!!! :D :D :D

I went with the 92A1 for the upgrades and because it was just to difficult to find a 92FS with a straight dust cover. The slanted dust cover really turns me off. The 92A1 is tactical ###y.

Mine is an A1

I have to say that I really like the whole 92 series. Not sure what it is, but they are just amazing handguns.

Since I can't justify spending the money to buy an FS, M9, and an A1 at once-- sad I know-- I ended up with the A1.

I liked the buffer, and the captive spring. I don't mind the rail, although I doubt I'll ever attach anything to it (famous last words).

At some point, I will have the FS to add to my growing collection. But the A1 started me off perfectly.

I should say that it is a dream to shoot. It feels so comfortable to me that it is almost cheating.

Whichever way you go, I'm confident you'll love the Beretta.

There is also the 90-two. It is pretty much the same as the 92A1 but with a little bit sleeker slide profile and it has a different polymer grip. I think it has a reduced frame in the grip as well.
