It would be .38 S&W.
12(6) prohib, front sight missing, otherwise average condition. Assuming it works $50 - $75.

Unless of course it's a .38 Rimfire and pre-1898, then it is an antique.

However, I do not believe these hammerless I-J's were offered in .38 RF

If by some chance it is, the rimfires command less of a premium due to the increased effort of loading. From 1500 down to 300-400. $50-75 looks quite right for a 12(6)

Should be pointed out that, if this is part of the estate sale you are enquiring about prices for elsewhere, then if there are any interested beneficiaries that revolver should qualify for a 12(7) inheritance to a qualified beneficiary. The value of that piece (unless as I say above, it should somehow fall into "antique status" by virtue of an unlikely rimfire chambering, coupled with a pre-'98 manufacturing date) would likely be greater in sentimentality than on the limited open market for 12(6)s.

Worth considering

Good luck

Thanks for the replies. Yes it is 12(6) with no family member wanting any of the firearms. 38 s&w it is. Appears to lock up tight an cycle although I have not fired it.
