Hi all,
I was cleaning up a load of once fired 9mm brass for reloading. I found that a large portion of it is made up of IVI brass. It is dated 1985, and all the primers have been removed prior to my getting it. I have reamed out the primer pockets. The brass is otherwise in great shape.
Has anyone reloaded IVI brass? Are there any issues with it? Should I "recycle" the brass, or is it OK to reload?

Best I can tell it tends to be slightly thicker than some commercial brands. Not enough to really cut case capacity measurably, but should last a while. Only issue with it normally is the primer crimp but if you are past that then give'r.

The brass is crimped...remove the crimp and it reloads well.

That would be a problem with the Lyman tool, not the brass.

Excellent brass, never had an issue.
 
I love 7.62mm IVI brass, quite thick so I back off a grain and a half on my loads and end up pretty close to mil-spec.
Not sure if 9mm is any thicker but I'd back off a little bit on my loads and work up.
Or just throw it in the bag with the rest of your 1st, 2nd 3d 4th and fifth etc. fired other mixed brands and not worry about it. (what I actually do with my 9mm)
 
i have a bunch of .303 british and 7.62x51 IVI brass and it's great. Tough, durable stuff. I have a couple pieces of .38 special IVI stuff too, and i wouldn't mind getting a hold of some more. It is a little thicker in the case wall though, so make sure you work up your load again just to be safe.
 
Someone on here sold me some IVI .303British a few years ago. Nice stuff, I like it better than anything else I've used, which as far as I can recall would include at least Remington UMC, Federal, Winchester, PMC, (not all in .303British.)

Reloaded lots of 9mm, 5.56 and 7.62 IVI after depriming and swaging primer pockets with Dillon Super Swager 600. Works just great. As others have also noted, it is on the heavy size, so you may need to reduce powder charge a bit.
