I have a small lot of this ammo coming. said to be from 1992. Just wondered if the brass is reloadable? Thought maybe they could be metal. Thanks for any info on these. Sorry. It is .303 Brit!

Dave.

If it's .303br I've reloaded it without difficulty - the primers are crimpted in, but came out without much difficulty. Maybe check with a light to be sure it's got the single centre flash hole. If it does, it shouldn't be a serious problem.

Good luck

If it's 9mm then it can be reloaded but the primer pockets have to be reamed which is too much of a PITA in my opinion given the cheap 9mm brass that is available.

They are brass......

"...Thought maybe they could be metal..." It is. It's brass. Reloadable milsurp brass at that. IVI makes mediocre ammo, but the brass is good. You'll have to reduce the load by 10%.

If you're talking about 7.62 remember that the case capacity is a bit less than civilian .308 due to thicker case walls so your power charge will need to be a few grains less than for a .308 case. Start low and work up.

I use I.V.I ( Industries Valcartier Industries) brass all the time for reloading. A lot of brass gets confused with I.V.I. Just because it has crimped primers, does not mean it is I.V.I. There are a lot of manufacturers that use crimps in there brass. But if it is I.V.I., get a Lee case mouth chamfer tool, put your deprimed brass is your drill and with the pointy end of the chamfer tool, gently ream out the crimped edge of the primer pocket. This is a one shot deal and will not have to be repeated. I've used I.V.I. 303 British, 7.62 X 51, 5.56 X 45, 9mm Luger, and 38 Special. I find it to be a very tuff and durable brass. The case walls are a little thicker, so if you are using maximum loads, I would reduce slightly 5 to maybe 10%. The thicker case walls makes the brass more durable IMHO.

Not to mention they are stolen property, the military does not release range salvage like brass to the public.

Actually last year there was a lot of a few triwalls of small arms brass for sale on the Crown Assets auction site, if I remember correctly it was located in Edmonton.

I thought everybody had IVI brass. I have quite a bit I picked up at our local range, mostly 223.

Do I have to turn myself in or can I just leave it in a basket on someone's doorstep?:p :D

i've had nothing but trouble with ivi 7.62 nato- it goes in fine, but coming out it'll pull the rim off , leaving me to do the whole stuck brass in the die thing- and yes it's lubed properly too- and i use a dillon 550, so it's not a lack of leverage in the press or something- anywya, now i just use it as a one-shot or scrap it- i think it's about issue 78 or so

Where i live the military throws the brass in the trash and i take it out. at gunshows in the USA have seen our military brass for sale and was told they buy it in bulk by the ton Dan

I figure I've paid enough in taxes over the years that the government should just ship me a container lot of IVI brass once every couple of years or so, just so I can get something useful for my money. Government property? Theft? Give your head a shake, it's SURPLUS. - dan

Gee, I've got a thousand or so pieces of IVI .38SPL sitting in my truck for Icehunter right now... And I know I can get tons more if I spread the word around work for everyone to salvage as much brass as they can after training and bring it to me at the shop.

IVI doesn't just sell to the CF, you know. Hell, if I remember correctly, the brand name for the stuff is Centaure.

Incorrect.

After Ranger Exercises, brass in .303, 7.62, 5.56, and 9mm is often given away to anyone who reloads. I used to have sandbags full of the stuff.

For several years the military was purchasing commercial 180 gr Winchester for the Rangers, because it is also used as hunting ammo. Some years ago I reloaded quite a bit of the 7.62 ammo, and I do not recall breaking pins, but the primers are crimped in.

Around here you can pick up IVI at any gravel pits or shooting spots, lots of military guys shooting the ivi.I have even been given some while shooting at the pits myself.Just don't ask where they get it DAN>>>;) :D

good brass, I have a few hundred 303 cases myself.

Sold as scrap by crown assets.

its illegal for DND personel to take brass and ammo from the range and its a big time no no to sell it as they would be profiting from selling government property.

But once crown assets disposes of it, :)
