IVI Mil Ammo legal to have and shoot, or not?

I think budget shooter supply sells IVI brass. So obviously not illegal to have, but illegal to take from the military obviously. spoke to a MP about it, apparently they take it pretty seriously.

1st world problems...you guys need to relax with the ammo police thing.:sok2

Knowing the government, they'll set up some sort of enforcement unit--with support from the UN and ITAR authorization.

Next will come a TV show (can't wait)--Law And Order-Rogue Ammunition Component Enforcement Unit....
It will join such other non hits like: Law and Order--Elevator Inspection Unit and Law and Order--Handicap Bathroom Stall Enforcement Unit....

...they'll drive full size Yukons (blacked out of course) and support the Provincial Tobacco Bylaw Enforcement Operators at the local Tims every 2 hours. You'll be able to set your watch by them! :p

IVI and DA were never that good for competition - much better could be had as far as reloading or else cheap mil surplus from the major ammo retailers. Why anyone would hoard it is anyone's guess.

Those were the days of issued ammo for all matches. Sure glad those days are over. DA and IVI is nice to have to introduce new shooters or juniors to the game. No need to use $1 a shot handloaded match ammo to shoot into the 2 and 3 ring. If they can hold the 4 ring, then it is time to move up to the better ammo.

I have been told that IVI does produce a match round in .308 and .338LM that is well liked by our armed forces shooting long range rifles.
Heard so, do not know for sure.

Please show me an example. Every bid i have seen on Gov't auctions has never shown this clause.

It WAS on all the brass lots up until recently, then, I noticed it change. Maybe the last year. They used to include the ITAR requirements to track and report, etc. as well as to hold records for 10 years.

They also started drilling holes in all the large bore brass cases too (tank, artillery shells), so I figure there was either a change in policy, or the policy was from some guy sitting behind a desk wringing his hands over liability, being replaced by some guy sitting behind a desk trying to figure out why his remaining people have no time for their day job...

Most of he brass lots get bought for enough money that a guy not in business with a pretty severe bankroll, need not bother getting his hopes up, anyways.

Lots of IVI ammo used to get handed out for Civilian Marksmanship Program use and the like. It didn't ALL go to the military, but that stuff was a while ago. Dunno what the odds are of the stuff at shows having fallen off a truck, but the only guy that will know for sure is the guy that kicked it, and maybe, a guy that cared enough to run a track on a lot number to see whet gives, and if that gave any useful data.

Military Prison isn't a fun place. That IS where a guy will be, if he gets caught dropping off a can of ammo for a friend, or selling it.

Cheers
Trev

Absolutly true !

We pulled a 308 at work to discover a 168gr hpbt bullet and 42.5gr of something that ressemble IMR4895

i commonly find ivi 223 brass at the local range so it has to be coming from somewhere and unless someone has stolen and sold a MASSIVE amount of it to the locals its not military issued. heck i have even found a good number of 308 ivi stuff kicking around! i hope a vendor gets some someday cause i want more! that stuff is awesome to reload.

303 soft point Ivi is available all over the north. Just ask a ranger and you can usually get a case or two. Shipping it south is another story tho! They are given several boxes a year for "practice"; there is a reason it's all round nose sp...
Brass is good if a little thicker round the waist. I've never had a case separation with Ivi reloads and some of my brass is likely around 20 loads or so.

I bought a bag full of 556 brass at a small town auction 1000 rounds. Turns out was all IVI with head stamps of 05 and 06. No idea where it came from but a score on my end!!!

Neck size or FL ?

Just neck size and the odd trim to length, I keep my brass separate per rifle. A few of the old smellies have incredible shoulders, crazy unfired/fire formed measurements. You could certainly drop a few rounds in the mud and they'd still chamber! I bought a lifetime supply of Ivi over my years in the north. Usual price was around $5 a box, shippings a lot harder now than it used to be...
