IWI Carmel – Magazine Feeding with bolt closed

I don’t drop the slide on my duty weapons either AND I DIDN'T EVEN PAY FOR THEM!
For carry, I chamber-load a single round and control the slide forward on the duty round. Press check to make sure it’s loaded, then insert a full magazine.
I find it keeps my rounds from getting setback from hundreds of load/unload cycles. I still cycle my carry ammo out regularly though.
On the range for training/qualifying, I load training FMJ from the magazine like a normal kid.
Then again, I’m also that nutbar who uses different lubes depending on the season… and I always put a dab of anti-seize on the outside of the barrel.
Firearm OCD… the struggle is real.

The gun needs a bolt forward assist. Makasi as well.
Some will say the "problem" will go away with training, but I'd say that if there is a "problem" nuts to donuts it'll rear its ugly head during stress.
Run a timed run or three gun with a gun that hangs out of battery with the slightest drag on the charging handle...you'll lose to those who's guns don't, or to those who can bash the bolt forward into battery with an assist plunger.

Also, when I induce a fail to chamber, by riding the charging handle, I was unable to use the thumb detent on the bolt to force it closed on the Carmel.
I don’t know if it needs a FA but an administrative press check can’t be effectively done, at least not with my soft thumbs.

Not a big deal in military context where SOPs require test firing prior to a patrol.
But in daily defensive carry where you aren’t firing the chambered carry round, it’s a mistake to load and clear with daily rinse and repeat on the same round.
For me, it remained 1 and done. The chambered round was replaced with a new round and the current became month end range stock.
“Expensive” is a very relative term.
If all you are firing is 30 rounds a month of full power ammunition for practice I don’t know what to say…
The only time I don’t let the bolt slam forward is on an empty chamber - but I’m overly cautious. Makes me cringe to see people close the action on an empty 1911….
I feel the same.
I try to avoid it as it feels "wrong" but it has happened many times over the years on various different firearms with no ill effects that I am aware of.
I was handling a firearm in a local LGS once and it happened accidentally - boy did they make me feel guilty. Kinda makes me think it can cause harm but I have not seen it.
This kind of questions pop up from time to time. This means it is a common issue. Things that are obvious to us may not be obvious to others. There were times I picked up a tool I didn't use often and forgot things like which way the knob supposed to turn, etc.
Putting this objectively, from a designer perspective a machine that is not intuitive to the user is actually a design deficiency. It is like the first Apple iPod with the circle turning pad, a design that did away a written manual.
A well designed firearm should be good enough for most to figure out without a manual. If there is anything that can be put back the wrong way or a charging handle that induces the users to ride it and creates enough drag to cause misfeed, it is actually a designer's oversight. like this is difference between 4 out 5 instead of 5 out of 5.

Agree with this it probably is user error, but even while actively focusing on not riding the charging handle it happens with a full mag. Doesn't happen with any other semi. Would class that as overly sensitive to user input if that's the case. Great fun otherwise.

The blocked mags artificially adds resistance not present in a normal capacity loaded magazine.
In some cases these are abnormally tight so as to avoid liability from a mag that is outside tolerances and allows a 6th round to be loaded.
Pull the action *forcefully* rearward and let go like a slingshot with zero contact on handle.
And FWIW, try manipulating the action with your other hand to determine whether Strength, dexterity and reaction speed are not the same on both sides.
There is a world of difference between “the rifle doesn’t work” and “I can’t make it work for me”.

Your comprehension is weak. The OP stated the gun does the same thing with two rounds removed from the magazine. How slack does it have to be to just work?
It's not a mag problem, or at least it's not just a mag problem.
It's so old, I don't know if it still exists. It was a glorious ride. "it's a military gun so I bought military ammo!"
It got to the point of so much disbelief that someone had to test if an SKS would actually load and fire a 223. Sure enough, it will.
