IWI CARMEL18.6” Canadian non restricted rifle CSR18

I had 3 x95 rifles, one for me, one for my son, and one for my brother. bought them right after the ar15 ban and I thought I was into something cutting edge and useful. Nope. while these rifles may be reliable over time they are so advanced they were unusable in the practical sense. putting in a new magazine was a blind guess if the rifle was anywhere near your shoulder and the bottom of the magazine interfered with your left or right wrist, depending on your natural dominant eye. I really wanted to like these rifles but it didn't take long to figure out they really were too advanced. anyway, I sold them. just another great design that didn't live up to the hype. maybe the Carmel is IWI's way of saying sorry for the x95, who knows.
I disagree with that take on the X95. I’m used to the C7/C8 and I transitioned the x95 seamlessly. I’ve also qualified on the SA-80, now that’s ####ty rifle. The X95 is great honestly. I put also 10k rounds through mine with zero issues. I have two AR’s as well and I prefer them but the X95 is great and a good compliment to the AR’s (one 14.5 and one 20”)

100% this.

It only takes a little bit of work to adapt to an X95. In some ways it is better than an AR.

I've heard this take on bullpups before, I never had the pleasure of handling an AR so I don't have that muscle memory. It's a totally different system, so I'd imagine your AR-experience makes the learning curve steeper than someone like myself.
I have 4 ARs and have been an AR guy for 30 years. I had no trouble adapting to the X95.

Are shorter barrels coming as well? I think the 18.5 is too long, and I’m not sure that second picture would be NR here. Anything like 16?

What you mean? I was asking if it’ll become R with the shorter barrels because I don’t want an R.
Uhhhhhhhhh ......... you did the PAL course to get your PAL didn't you? They cover the whole barrel length with with respect to restricted classification in Canada. 🤷‍♂️

A SA rifle with a barrel shorter than the 18.5 that you don't like, will be restricted, which you don't want. 🤷‍♂️

Do you have your PAL? Genuine question.. If not, go take the course and it'll clear up your confusion.
I do, I just don’t remember the definitions; it’s not like I ever need to determine if a rifle is R on my own anyways. I was just asking them if they were importing shorter barrels; the second part was just thoughts. Don’t need to tunnel vision on it

Yeah I have my license, I just don’t remember the barrel length definitions since I never really need to use it, the shops will tell me when it’s R anyways. Thanks for clearing it up though

I've only handled 5.56 in the X95. And I've got no issue inserting the magazine into the mag well. Anyone who moans or complains about it got thinner skin than Trojan Diet Condom. Practice makes perfect.

What ways are those?
Well it’s shorter overall while still attaining a higher velocity due to barrel length. My X95 with an 18.5” is shorter than my 14.5” AR. I found the bolt release to be better for emergency reloads, integrated irons that take up no additional space are some. For cons, the trigger out of the box is terrible, the height over bore is brutal, and the over gassing is pretty noticeable. The AR is a better system overall but the X95 has some very good features as well. I like both, but if I had to chose one I’d go with the AR15.

Agreed, I found the mag insert on the x95 to be easy and well designed with the placement of the bolt release

Irunguns has it for about $800 cheaper lol

IRG is offering the RESTRICTED model for $1399 USD/$1934CDN before their import fees/taxes/ect, comes out to just a little cheaper and limited to range use only.

Non restricted version we can trade it among our friends freely with just a reference number to disrupt the cookie crumb trail. ;)
