IWI Tavor and t T-97

now for a heated question....

I really want a semi auto small caliber something, something preferably non restricted and something thats not an AR/XCR/Classic Green. Should i buy one or will the RCMP probably f**k my a**hole raw a few months down the road? Or just give up and buy a mini-14 or SL8 since they dont seem to be the source of as much controversy

Buy one! If you are new to this site look around - because so many people spread the "guns are bad vibe" you may be surprised at what us Canadians can legally get our hands on. I came to CGN for info on the Tavor too, but it sucked me in like a black hole and my wallet has never been the same since.

Will they come knocking on your door for your guns sometime down the road? This is a risk any gun owner subjects themselves to, but that day won't be tomorrow, and the more guns there are in peoples hands the harder it will be to do.

"Black" rifles are just rifles of a newer more modern design. Chances are your TV does not look the same as it did 20 years ago, why should your rifles? I say get as many "black" rifles out there as possible so people stop thinking of them as dangerous and start thinking of them as just a newer version of something which has been around for a long time.

LOL off topic slightly, how long before they create a tacti-cool clause in the firearms laws give it a "10 year old test" if you make a toy one does a 10 year old want it

Ya, you may want to read up on some articles, the Mini-14 is targeted specfiefically by the NDP and the Coalition for Gun Control. Its the rifle the wack job nutcase used at Polytech, so its tasted blood and need to be banned according to them.

yeah i did read about that but the NDPs motion seemed to silly to pass, it was the same one that wanted to ban 'sniper rifles' too was it not? (aka every hunting rifle with a scope that exists)

Don't worry about controversy. The libs don't want us having any guns so if we play there rules that is what we will get. Buy whatever black rifle suits your fancy and get good with it. Don't even think twice about what some tight collar in Ottawa thinks.

If anything the more that are out there the more leverage is on or side.

No, I don't own one, too hard on my wallet.

So true. I jumped in to the firearm community with both feet and have been buying guns like they are going out of style. Each time I see a new design I like, I think I had better buy it now in case they want to ban it later. But I also agree that if more people own a particular kind of gun that it will be harder to prohibit later.

I recently did have them come knocking on the door (O.K. nasty phone calls and very official subtly threatening letters ) In January 2009 I purchased a Norinco Type 97 from Lever Arms. We all know the outcome to all that.
I gave up my Reference Hearing and took their gun money after letting two gunsmiths look at it. It is not an "easily converted" weapon; It is a scary weapon and they do not want us to be able to own such things. Conveniently enough ( for the gun stealers ) the first examples in Canada had another feature that could arguably make them a prohibited weapon anyway ( this to be determined by the Reference Hearings of the brave individuals who didn't get as fed up as I did )
Despite my recent experience I consoled myself with the purchase of a Tavor. After more carefully investigating the rifle this time I bought one. Despite looking like the standard Israeli infantry arm it is absolutely a semi automatic sporting version. I am confident that it cannot be seized as the law is written. They aren't making up the law to suit themselves; They are looking at any way to use the existing laws to deny us from owning these firearms. If a firearm is approved (and more than 35 people possess it) I would think that we can buy it and enjoy it.

The tavor is definitely non-restricted. I have one myself new in the box. There was no issues getting it at all. In fact, I have a friend who sells them if you're interested. Just PM me...

Got my Tavor on order, I'm on the next shipment. The Tavor is good by our current laws, let's just make sure the NDP don't get their new law (forgot the bill #) or they will be able to "interpret" what is suitable for sporting use. If that passed, I would cringe because they would most certainly have their own interpretation to the Tavor.

I wonder if Jack Layton has even fired a gun before? I don't want to sound mean, but any man that has fired a gun that dosen't get excited and is still terrified of them, I figure dosen't have a lot of testosterone.
