IWI Tavor Rifles

So are these bad boys shipping out today? I'm chomping at the bit...figure I'll try out my ACOG on it.

I'm curious though - are these new rifles the same ones being produced by IWI US? If so, why the added $800? The MSRP is stated to be $1999 last I checked. Do the backup irons in the pic have anything to do with the hike?

Otherwise, looks pretty sweet! I plan to own one in the future - just hope I can keep mine when/if I get it, being in Montreal and all...

The ones produced in IWI U.S. are all restricted by nature of the barrel length. The longest barrel IWI U.S. produces is 18". The U.S. one also is compatible with a 9mm and 5.45 conversion kits. Ours are built in Isreal still.

I am sure TV-PressPass will be here shortly to add his wealth of Tavor knowledge!

The said 18-inchers should meet the requirements, no? The Tavor's not a restricted firearm, afterall.

Barrel must be minimum 18.5" to be classified as non-restricted...........

BAH! What bull. I'm hoping these laws will change by the time I get my PAL.

In the meantime, maybe we can ask our US friends to make some 18.5 versions for us.

Highly doubt the US IWI will make 18.5" ones ...since the IWI in Israel already make 18.5" tavors.

Is adding an extra half-inch of metal really that much of a hassle? The new US plant could stand to make some extra revenue off us if they did. Just saying.

Simplest way I see this being done is to mount/pin a muzzle device that's a half-inch longer than the standard birdcage. I'm sure they exist.

I could see IWI U.S. adding an extra half inch to the US version in the future, but as it stands now the chaos in the US regarding gun sales make that a no go because IWI can't keep up to demand in the U.S. either.

I would also like to throw some caution into the wind to those buying the Israeli version as Israel seems to be gearing up for a war, therefore IWI Israel may become to busy producing Tavors an Tavor parts for the IDF only should a MAJOR war break out involving them. This could cause a potential part shortage more than it already is for us.

Pining muzzle device does not work in Canada.
And to answer your question, yes adding an extra inch on the barrel is a hassle. I can see US IWI make an effort to produce 18.5" tavors if the we do not already get 18.5" tavors from Israel..
From a business point of view...it is better to charge more for the rifle if they can. With the $3000 price tag, the rifle is still selling out pretty fast.

The US SAR barrel is made in Israel.

Yes, the barrel is make in Israel....and?

I think the new US plant is going to change that trend - I'm sure there's going to be more people like me who've heard the news and will want to own one of their fine rifles more affordably. As soon as the confusion down south calms, all that's needed is for a few distributors to send out enough requests to make them respond. That is, if our government doesn't enact any more bs laws before then.

And if CODFan's statement is true, then the legal matter is even simpler to solve - the plant only needs to order some 18.5s along with the usual lengths and install them on the existing rifles they're building over here.

Happy days!!! Mine just arrived this morning...VERY NICE!!...Thanks Frontier! :dancingbanana: I think I should mention that I did handle the T97NSR this weekend and the Tavor is WAAAYYY nicer...just sayin'.
