Made the mistake of dropping into the LGS today. I was told there were 4 new Tulas that just arrived. Second rifle pulled out of the box was a 1954 Izhevsk hardwood stock, un-issued. Compared to the Tulas, the Izhevsk bluing seemed to be of a higher quality. I know that Izhevsk is the rarer SKS, but is there a difference in quality between the two? Thanks in advance for any info...c1a1

Izhevsk rifles, in my opinion, have deeper and richer bluing and a slightly higher build quality than the already exceptional Tula rifles. The bolt and bolt carriers on Izhevsk rifles in my experience have also been shinier and much nicer looking than most Tula made SKS rifles that I've seen.

They won't shoot any better than a Tula usually, but cosmetically the Izhevsk plant has bragging rights. $199 for an unissued Izzy is certainly a good way to spend your money. Treat her well.

I have a 53 izzy refurb and i have seen tulas at the range. I must say the blueing on my izzy is almost a work of art compared to the tula's. the tula's ive seen have very blotchy blueing. But hey it is an sks made to survive a war.
