My grandfather got rid of his guns and I inherited a J.C. Higgins model 31. I did a search on the forum and all I could find is that it may have been made by hi-standard. Anyone here would happen to know what hi standard model it would relate to?
Also I fired about 100 rounds through it this evening. It feels good and well balanced, better than my 10/22 I would say. Trigger is slightly better and the irons too. I plinked on a piece of square steel tubing, it feels fairly accurate. But I had jams. LOTS. About 1 round out of 3 failed to feed properly. It was always the same problem, ejection was always fine but the rounds kink when the bolt comes back forward (winchester 333 round packs, 36 grains hollow points). These rounds do have a bit of shake between the bullet and the brass. At this point I would blame the ammo. Is there any brand of cheap bulk ammo that don't have that play between the brass and the lead?
Thanks for any input!
