I got one on my 870 and one on my 700
CAN it just engage on its own (by accident, like) and leave me F*cked for not having the green key? Or do you need to have the green key to activate and deactivate?

I'm pretty sure it won't turn without first sticking the green key in, so it won't lock itself on you.

I used to use it, but later I figured one day I'd end up at the range/field without the green key and kick myself in the nuts.

Now I just use a trigger lock.

You can also have your j-lock replaced with a non-locking safety. It will drop right in, no sweat.

You do not need the key to put it on (at least on the 870). I can put it on by rotating it with my fingers. They can be swithched out for a regular one. On the 870 you need to buy a regular type safety, the detent ball and the spring. Five minutes to change it.

Hmm. Thanks for the correction Arwen. I tried turning mine by hand without the key, and it wouldn't budge. Seems it's still stiff from disuse ;) (Thank God).

I might look into that replacement safety before paranoia now takes over :runaway:.
