Yes they are all, rabbits and hares are in alberta, I went to the conservation office and spoke to an officer years ago about this.

I couldnt believe how many I seen at the airport in Calgary last year when I was there. The rabbits pictured look like snowshoes to me. Jack are considerably larger from the ones Ive seen in Ontario and Alberta/Saskatchewan.

I grew up catching over 100 snowshoe hare a year when we ran the big trap line, I can promise you this is not a snowshoe. I know the pic does make it look smaller then it is, I though about it after I skinned it I should have placed something by it for size so guys like your self who have never killed one could get a sense of how big the jackrabbits are

btw I shot a few Jackrabbits out in open fields so don't tell me what I have or not have shot.
 
"Hasenpfefferr" (hare pepper) is my favourite recipe.

Marinade the rabbit for 2-3 days in red wine. Brown the meat and then slow simmer for several hours with spices (salt, marjoram , juniper berries, peppercorns, bay leaves, smoked paprika, onion flakes), carrots and celery root

Pairs well with Spätzle (or mashed potatoes), cranberries and braised red cabbage...

I think you’re looking at the wrong pic and getting confused. The first pic he posted of the single rabbit is a jackrabbit and the pic of the two rabbits with the ATV are snowshoe hares.

We have European hares around here that some mistakenly call jackrabbits. But they’re bigger than jackrabbits and don’t turn white. Things get huge.

^^ A "jack" can be many things but not the same of what you're speaking off. There's also "jack acses"...

We don't speak of pickerel in BC but if we catch a small Coho or Chinook in our rivers we call them "jacks".

You know much about "jacks", Alberta Boy!?

Yes I do know about "jacks" that's what we call small pike.

You do know what a pike is don't you???

When I was about 12 I whacked a showshoe hare with the old pellet gun and tried to make hasenpfeffer. It turned out so bad that I have not shot another one in the past 26 years…. Maybe it’s time to try again. I feel like my 12 old kitchen skills probably got the best of me.
