Hey there chaps

Anyone have any experience with the Pro-mag 50 round drum magazine on a Ruger SR22?

I picked one up used on the EE a few months back and the damn thing jams with every kind of ammo I have tried, from el-cheapo CCI Bulk lead RN up through Federal bulk, good federal .22, copper washed RN, mini-mag washed RN, Stingers, Remington you name it.

Does anyone who has one of these have any ammo recommendations? The bloke who sold it to me didn't include the manual (I guess he didn't have it) so I don't really know what the manufacturer recommends (they don't answer my e-mails).

Any advice? And yes I already have a couple of Butler Creek 25 round bananas and yes they work flawlessly with everything. And yes they are a helluva lot easier to load as well.

The Pro-mag does have the advantage that it looks absolutely wicked cool on the SR22.

Cheers

Hmm, seems like A LOT of people unhappy with that 50 round mag. I did watch a youtube vid on the Ruger 25 round mag (BT-25 I think it was?). Seems to be better and more jam proof than the But;let Creek and other 3rd party ones.

It IS cool looking though. Great way to make a 22 replica Tommy gun.

There a BIG piece of crap!
Everyone knows it, except the people who peddled them.
In their eyes they "needed to be broke it to work correctly".... :bsFlag:

i purchased one off the EE aswell. i knew people had issues with them and the seller fairly stated it did not work for him but for $25 figured id give it a shot as my friend has no issues with his when using american eagle 40 grain. the first time i put it in my gun there was a ton of play and failed each shot, took it home and shimmed it up to fit snug and it helped quite a bit, id get 10 or so rounds before a jam. i have it apart right now actually at work and i think ive found the issue with the plastic feed. the spring itself is very strong. im modifying it right now and taking pics as i go so if i have success this weekend ill post up my how to pics. if anyone does try taking one of these things apart be very careful, there is a coiled spring inside under considerable pressure.

no its not like a bc mag where the bolt slams into the top of mag feed lips and needs slight modding. the drum mag basically has a chamber that 5 rounds actually just sit loose inside, as the spring forces the next round up a flimsy plastic feed pushes up on these loose rounds trying to load them into the chamber. from what i see inside its far to week, really flimsy. might not be a great explanation but i cant post pics right now at work.

My experience... it jammed ..yes, shimmed the mag with black tape so it fit snug...polished the lips with 600grit kept working the action (focusing on the path of feeding) and studying the nose of the bullet to see where it was hanging up (mine would carve a little bit of the bullet off) ....polished the chamber opening on the lower half to smooth out the path of the bullet nose...shot it the other day 50 rounds no jams...total time spent maybe 4 hours.

Hmmm. Thanks. The mag fits fine in the rifle - feels really solid. The rounds bite on the top side like they catch on the top lip of the chamber. I would be very reluctant to start screwing around with the chamber lip. I'll try polishing the feed lips and still have to actually get the tech guy from pro-mag on the line to ask him.

Thanks guys, this forum is great

So I saw a posting here on CN a while back about a 50 round drum mag for a 10/22 and while searching found this thread.

While searching for the ProMag drum magazine I also ran across the following:

http://www.brownells.com/.aspx/sid=...187_a_7c747_a_7c100005585_d_100005585_d_10030

I just called Brownells and they confirmed that they can, and will, ship this item to Canada. (I already knew you can ship magazine from US to Canada having already ordered several from the US in the last couple of years)

After reading this thread I'm definitely not buying a ProMag but I'm interested in this one and I'm curious if anybody has tried it yet and how well it worked.

Anybody?

Are these without fault? Nope but that can be said about any high cap 10/22 mag AND the moving goal post that is the 10/22 rifle itself

But I sell them and a dealer buys them by the dozen.

Someone(s) must be having some success....

YMMV.
